Earth's Getting Mighty Big in the Window-RCI Deposits June UY

June use year here. I have 81 points at risk. No desire to deposit to RCI. My plan for now is to wait to see what DVC comes up with if anything.
June year here too, losing 45 points which may not seem like alot but we usually use each and every one. Not depositing into RCI, waiting for DVC to respond with something. Our trip was to be April3-9th and contacted them many times to be told nothing except hey you can deposit to RCI. No thanks
June use year here, too. I had a mid-April Star Wars half marathon reservation cancelled. 33 points at risk right now. From my cursory look at RCI that would get me not much. There are resorts that do nightly rentals, but it didn't seem like there are many. We rarely stay in hotels anyway--most of our travel is covered by vacation homes/time shares/tour groups, etc. So add me to the group with little to no interest in RCI. I'm holding out and hoping that DVC comes up with something. They have significant breakage every year so they could eat into that.

I decided to take a look for the hell of it and it seems like most places that have a week minimum cost more than the 90 points we'd move to RCI so yeah it doesn't do much for us either.

exactly! for our 45 points we had in a ressie for april 3-9 they were far more valuable to us as DVC owners and when we rebooked for sept they should have allowed us to use those for the new ressie considering the time frame we did have booked was closed. Not just oh well , can't believe other companies have figured out a plan and yet we still wait on DVC to say something!!

Try to remember, the solution will need to be dependent on opening and what would work for a few month, may not work if it ends up being 5 months,

If they open June 1st, then the only banked points expired are April and June UY. That would be a lot easier to deal .

The harder part is the points beyond the banking window, but again, I view no news as better than a hard no, I still wonder if they are trying to negotiate with Disney to have access to more of the cash rooms under a different deal as now.

June UY here too. I have a late April reservation as I was planning to attend the Moonlight Magic event. It's <20 points so not a big amount and not enough to get anything even if I did deposit in RCI. I think I'm just struck by how unfair this feels. The banking window passed before COVID-19 was on our radar here in the US. Those of us with June UY and Spring reservations never really had an opportunity to make a different choice as the resorts are closed. I usually have a lot of faith in Disney doing the right thing for their customers which, I guess, is why I feel so shocked they are doing something that feels so wrong.

I think if I had a lot of points at risk I would probably deposit in RCI on day 46 and see what I could do to make the best of it. For those of us with a smaller amount of points it probably doesn't make any sense. I totally agree that I would be furious if DVC came out with a definitive statement on day 44.

As I have stated here before, I have a slightly different perspective as we have 181 hanging in limbo right now. If it's any consolation to you, I can assure you that should I choose to deposit my points into RCI in a day or two, I will most assuredly be standing on someone's desk in FL if they do something different on day 44 that would have salvaged my points to DVC. You can take that to the bank (ing deadline).

I've stood on a counter to a cheering lobby at a local McDonald's. I'm no stranger to how it's done.

We are June use year, stand to lose 225 points for our May trip, which was supposed to be May 11. We have not cancelled it yet but I am sure Disney will, we would not go even if open. We have decided not to move the points to RCI. We are not interested in their options, when we travel elsewhere we already know where we want to stay. We may be naive but are going to put our faith in Disney doing something for us, anything is better than what we have now which is nothing.

But you don't have "nothing" now. You have a chance to move them to RCI.

I think people that are betting on DVCM doing something and therefore NOT moving them to RCI are taking a huge gamble. I think it is unlikely that DVCM is going to come back and go "Ok, you can bank those now" after the 45 day window passes. Sure, there is likely a tiny chance, but I think it is much more likely that they won't do that.

So, it seems crazy to me to just let 225 points go to nothing -- betting on the tiny chance that DVCM comes up with some magical plan to let you salvage those lost points (which, in turn, would then tick off a ton of people that aren't in this situation).

We've got only 83 points at risk -- but I'm certainly moving them to RCI unless we hear otherwise from DVCM within the next day or so (i.e. the 45 day deadline).

We all roll dice of our own choosing. I have decided to not deposit my points into a system I have no desire to use. Had I desired RCI points, I would have bought into an RCI TS with better options (which would have included Orlando, BTW).

I'm not standing to lose my points. My points have flat-out been taken away when DVCM cancelled my reservation without my consent, and did not make any other option available to me to book like accomodations before they take my points away on May 31. I'll pay a lawyer to fight that battle if it comes to it.

Well, you can spend more money on a lawyer if you'd like. I'm sure one would be happy to take your money. Can you tell me what part of the agreement that you signed that you feel they have violated?

They don't need your "consent" to cancel a reservation if the place you reserved is unavailable due to circumstances mostly outside of their control.

DVCM didn't cancel your reservation. We (you, me, and the other DVC owners) decided to close it down (at request of the government). It's our resort to shut down. DVCM is just hired help.

I have not been able to find a single government order in the central FL area ordering hotels closed. Ironically, in most every state and FL from what I can tell, hotels are considered "essential services." You can keep telling yourself it was us or our representatives if it makes you sleep better at night and makes you comfortable with what happened to millions of points, whether they included your own or not. Disney shut the DVC resorts down by choice. Most at near 100% occupancy at the time and fully paid for.

I'm see no need to dance around this circle again as I'm dizzy from going around it so many times here before.

It’s the emergency powers of our contract that allows it once a state of emergency was declared.

But, as you said, everyone has the right to handle it anyway they want and if you believe that your contract rights were breached, then you need to do whatever makes you comfortable.

You've said this is in one of your contracts, but is it there for all resorts? I looked at one and didn't see anything referring to a state of emergency.

That's a pretty common "out" in most any TS agreement. While I admit I haven't specifically looked at mine, I'd find it very hard to believe it's not in there. Might want to look again. :)

I am sure it is in all of them as they have hurricanes or any other type of weather related issues to deal with that they would want to protect. I think it would also be required via timeshare laws as well,

I also confirmed it with DVC via from someone in a management office,

As I said, I only have RIV POS to confirm it. In addition to that, the property management agreement we have with Disney to provide services, I was told, also plays a role, as they are the ones who employ the workers used to run the resorts.

I don’t have that as we must request it, but if one does they will send. I have no need for it, because I don’t feel they have breached any terms of the contract,

I am sure you can email DVC and ask them to provide you with the language, page number, etc, for the resort you own. They we’re very happy to answer my questions. It took about a little over the week to hear back.
