Earthquakes!

Really, what's with all the strong earthquakes around the world lately?

Another in Chile today.

Is this the pre-cursor to something bigger?

Not living in earthquake territory, I think I better brush up on what to do before our trip to WA this summer. And glad to have visited CA without feeling any.

Maybe we should plan Yellowstone soon!

Anyone else wondering what's going on?

The number of earthquakes this year is well within the norms of the last century or longer.

Magnitude Average Annually
8 and higher 1
7 - 7.9 17
6 - 6.9 134
5 - 5.9 1319

Ask again after we've had a couple more magnitude 8s. Or, a dozen more 7s.

I don't think there are MORE earthquakes just more news coverage. Kind of like what happens when there are shark attacks in the summer. Suddenly you start hearing about a new one every day. It's not that the sharks are turning maneater, it's that the news has a new favorite story.

Well, there are certainly more earthquakes in MY life.

I had just gotten out of the grocery store this morning and was sitting in my car, waiting to in the line-up to merge onto the main road, when I suddenly felt someone rocking my car. I looked around, trying to figure out who was jumping on my bumper, when I realized that the light poles were swaying, too I watched everyone run out of the mall, and then 60 seconds later it was all over. I, with the rest of the queue of cars, went on our merry way.

I am really tired of these aftershocks...this was the strongest one yet. However, they still are just 'babies' compared to the original one 12 days ago! A bit scary, but not absolutely terrifying Glad the reports from this one are indicating minimum damage
