I have been hearing so much lately about protecting our childrens ears lately, and our own. Alot of peopel dont realize that loud noise damages the hairs in our ears, and its something that gets worse with time. We never usually go anywhere that loud, but realized at the fireworks the other night, I think they were too loud for all of us :)
Do you think we need something for the Fantasmic show, Wishes, and afternoon parade at MK???
I want to protect our hearing, and our daughters. I am not that comfortable inserting ear plugs in my own ears. So for our 7 year old I was thinking of the muffs, even though we would have to carry, or the moldable silicone ones that just get placed in outer ear for my husband and I and maybe her too?
Not sure if its going overboard?
We go in September! it will be her first time! We have not been there in years.

I would say it's overboard.

Definitely not for Fantasmic or the parade. For wishes, the big fireworks are set off from behind magic kingdom. So you're a pretty good distance away from them. Their really not loud at all. But if you feel you guys have sensitive ears, then the further back from the castle you go the less you'll hear them.

I've never been concerned with hearing at Disney as nothing is overly loud. It's not like a concert is going on. But if you are concerned, most of the consensus point toward Rockin Rollercoaster and Dinosaur as being the loudest.

You should be okay as long as you stay far enough away from the speakers at the Dance Parties and find spots far from the Castle during Wishes. Don't stand in new Fantasyland during Wishes because it is very loud back there. I'm surprised they don't have the CMs wear ear protection in that area due to the fireworks overhead. CMs do have hearing tests on a regular basis.

Ok. Cause I thought I read somewhere that Fatasmic at HS is really loud! Not sure if we are that sensitive to it or Im just thinking about it more lately. I went to a Keith Urban concert a year ago, and after that I will never go to a concert without ear protection again. I jsut dont want to eel uncomfortable from loud sounds, and I want to protect my daughters ears. :)

Thanks! For the fireworks this 4th of July we were slightly far back. But I dont think far enough! LOL. My husband said maybe 300-500 feet back, but not sure. I had my fingers in my ears the entire time. They were exploding over top of us so it seemed.

I have a few sets of those little foam earplugs (they come with a plastic carrying case) in my purse or pocket most of the time. We used them for our DD at Fantasmic, just because she has sensitive ears. They don't completely block the noise, just muffle it enough to be bearable.

Yes. I am not sure if she would want those in her ears. And I am not good with sticking things in my ears. But I think i will definitely invest in something for her at least for that show. They say having sensitive ears has nothing to do with it. Children's ears hear louder then what we are hearing. So thats a little scary. :)

They actually are born with the correct hearing, just as we get older our ears become damaged and it becomes harder to hear with them. Kind of like our eyesight.

My daughter does have more sensitive - or I guess you could say accurate - hearing than most children. We were extremely cautious when she was young, so her ears aren't as damaged as many others. That's what I meant by sensitive. Some children's ears ARE more sensitive than others. My son, he can barely hear us from the other room - his hearing is not as sensitive.

She didn't like the earplugs at first, and hated the wax kind. She tolerates the foam ones because she can hear the difference when she doesn't use them. It might not hurt to at least have them on hand.

I hear ya! I guess we can try practicing with them now. I may still buy the muffs too. I just read another thread that said Fantasmuc is really really Loud!! :( I hate loud noises too. I just dont know why everything has to be so loud. :)

I wouldn't say you are overboard at all. Everyone's situation is different. My DS has very sensitive ears and has never been able to watch Wishes or Fantasmic b/c the loud pops and bangs really bother him. We were at a 4th of July party this weekend and had to take him in the house b/c the small fireworks that were being lit were bothering him. So we thought about the plugs for our next trip as well to see if it helps him. It's not a bad idea by you.

Thank you!!! I was very sensitive this weekend, and was upset after the fireworks and the parade as we sat directly in front and the fire engines kept tooting their horns. My husband loves it, but I couldn't wait to leave. Next year Im wearing muffs, i dont care how crazy I look. I just would rather not mess around with our ears. Plus, noise induced hearing impairment adds up over the years, so I would rather protect hers now as much as I can. :) I never knew this but I learned everytime your ears ring slightly after a concert or loud bar etc, your hairs are damaged. Once a certain amount are damaged, you have partial hearing loss. Scary.

I have very sensitive hearing (and I'm FAR from being a child!) I carry the dense, squish-and-insert ear plugs with me and use them on Great Movie Ride, Indiana Jones, Countdown to Extinction, Fantasmic. Takes enough of the edge off that I am comfortable.

Unless you buy shooting muffs, most earmuffs won't provide enough protection. It's probably easiest to just get everyone used to wearing earplugs. They provide good protection. I frequently wear them to autoracing events and when I ride my scooter.

The key to getting them in your ears well is to refrigerate them if possible, roll them between your fingers into a tight cylinder, and then insert but not all the way in. That way they will confirm to the ear canal properly without poking in the more sensitive parts. I sometimes also have to apply a very small amount of liquid, usually saliva, to get them in more easily. I have small ear canals though and keep my ears very clean.

I'd go for a set of ear defenders, like are sold at music festivals (or at least they are in the UK). If you are uncomfortable with the loudness, it's better to have something so you can enjoy the experience properly :)

I have sensitive hearing and find almost everything at Disney is too loud for me. I carry earplugs for myself, especially for fireworks.

May I ask what brand you use, and will it work for a 7 yr old? :)

I meant the ear muffs that are also known as ear defenders. Not winter ear muffs. If that is what you were thinking. Like these: http://www.earplugstore.com/ear-muffs-for-children.html

I wouldn't worry so much about fireworks as they are reasonable far away from you, but some attractions are quite loud. Dinosaur, comes to mind immediately as ear-splitting loud! Some thrill rides might be bad if you are sitting next to a "screamer" - I don't mean just the "WoooHooo" kind, but the blood-curdling, over-the-top kind on the Tower of Terror (you know who you are!) types. I can see that being harmful to one's hearing.
