Has anyone had any success with earplanes with their toddlers?

I LOVE earplanes and I will never fly without them again. I don't know if DS will have trouble with his ears but he has me more worried now because he has been picking at one of his ears for the last 2 days. Thankfully we have a check-up scheduled for him on Tuesday afternoon so they can look at his ears.

Anyway, I know they make earplanes for kids but has anyone had any success actually getting them to leave them in their ears? Any tips or suggestions for keeping them in?

I've never used them on my kids, but I love them for myself!

I bought them for DD, she'll be almost 16 months when we go, and I plan to TRY using them, just in case. However, being that we leave at almost the same time, I won't be able to let you know if they worked or not. Hopefully someone who has used them with a toddler will come along and let us both know how they worked! :sunny:

We have used them successfully numerous times and we would not leave home without them! Just be sure to follow the instructions to the letter (like you do your own) and you will be fine.

Have a great flight!

For those of you who have used them I also have a question.

Dd has never flown before so I don't know if she will have problems with her ears. Have you always used Earplanes as a caution without knowing if your child would have ear problems or have you only used them after finding out there was a problem?

I am asking because I know dd (almost 6) will not want something in her ears but I also don't want to find out after the fact that she does in fact have a problem flying.

I bought the earplanes for my son when he was 3. He wouldn't let me put them in, when I got them in, he wouldn't let them stay. So, they didn't work for us. I just made sure his sippy cup was full of water and as we took off and landed had him drink. The sucking helped relieve the pressure.

Now that he is 6 I have him chew gum during take off's and landings. I hate gum (and he doesn't usually chew), but this is a must. Once he did it without, and said, I want gum now. it really helped relieve the pressure, since he can't "plug and blow" like we can.

P.S. I also start yawning, and make sure he see's me. YOu know Yawning is catchy. And if you see someone yawn you will probably start yawning. even saying the word is enough to get some people going. That helps no matter how old they are.

Just reading your post made me yawn!

Really! Isn't it funny how that works?!?

Yep. I yawned when I wrote it, and yawned again when I saw your response. it is a phonemonal response. And a good yawn helps clear up those ears.

I realize this is straying a bit from the earplanes topic, but...
For kids that are too young for gum of if you're just uncomfortable with your kids having it, Gummi bears are a great substitute.

On our last trip to WDW we ended up giving our entire supply of gummi's away to kids on the plane with us. Our return trip had many of the same familys on board and all of them had their own supply of gummi's:)

Thanks for the gummi bear idea. I usually give DD a lolly pop which makes her have to swallow a lot. She loves gummi bears and those are so much neater than a lolly pop :D .
