Earning Delta skymiles on NW or Continental flight

Can you do this? If so, how? When you book a flight on Continental or NW's websites, there isn't a place to add your skymiles #; only their respective FF #'s. However, I read on Delta's website (I think), some time ago, that you could do this; I just never figured out how. Can you check in at an airport kiosk on a NW or Continental flight with your Delta skymiles card and earn miles that way, or how is this accomplished?

Thanks to any savvy FFer who can enlighten me on this additional way to earn miles. :)

You might want to check out www.flyertalk.com. Plenty of knowledgable people over there; I'll bet they've had a similar question that you'll be able to find by doing a search there.

I frequent flyertalk often, and could not find answers there... thus my quiery here.

I've checked delta's site, also... same result.

Basically, I understand that I can earn skymiles on partner airlines (in only certain classes of service), I just don't know how to go about doing that.

Delta's site states: "Provide your Skymiles number at time of booking or check-in for each flight". So, back to my original question: how (if possible) do I provide my skymiles # on Continental or NW's websites or can I just check in at a airport kiosk using my skymiles card for a NW or Continental flight, like I would for a Delta flight?

Any Disers out there with personal experience to share? :listen:

At the airport check-in, provide your frequent flyer information to the person and ask them to put in on all of your flights. I regularly ask Delta associates to put my Northwest info in at check-in. Have a great trip. :cool1:

This is exactly what I wanted to know. :thanks:

Anyone ever check in at a kiosk on a NW or Continental flight using their skymiles card?

I do this all the time. I have a TA that books my business travel, and she will enter my Skymiles number at time of booking. If she doesn't, I can go to NW or Cont website and enter it there.

Or you can wait until check in as winterman says.

I have never used my Skymiles card at checkin. I use a credit card (they only grab the name) and it works every time.

I'm confused. I thought "General Rules for Mileage Credit
Mileage earned under the SkyMiles program will be credited to your account within up to eight weeks after qualifying activity occurs, unless otherwise provided in the individual partner's terms and conditions. To ensure credit:

For air travel: Provide your SkyMiles number at time of booking or check-in for each flight. The name on the reservation must match the name on the SkyMiles account for mileage to be credited.
Hotel and car rental partners: Provide your SkyMiles account number and name as shown on your SkyMiles membership card at time of hotel check-in or car rental pickup. Mileage is credited only to the member whose name appears on the bill for the hotel stay or car rental. " on the Mileage Credit & Rules http://www.delta.com/skymiles/about...rogram/mileage_credit_rules/index.jsp#general page was pretty clear?

Really? On NW's site I only see a place for a WorldPerks #, and on Continental's site, I only see a place for a OnePass #. I don't see where you can enter your Skymiles #. :magnify:

Or is this something you can do on their websites (in your itineraries) only after you book a flight?

Yeah, I agree with Florida...I see nowhere on the websites where to put the # for the other airline.

What is not clear is how one provides one's Skymiles# on NW & Continental's websites. Just wondering how I go about doing that. On their home pages there are places for WorldPerk & OnePass #s, but I don't know how one would go about providing one's Skymiles # when booking a NW or Continental flight on their websites. I've never done so, so perhaps it would become clear to me in the process. Was hoping someone who's actually done this could explain it to me.

As for providing my Skymiles # at time of checkin, my question is can you do this at a kiosk check-in? Specifically, can I use my Skymiles card to check in at a kiosk for a NW or Continental flight?

I have only ever done it after my trip is booked - and yes there is a place for you to add it there. I do not know about doing it during the booking process however.

I have never tried swiping my Skymiles card at an NWA or Cont kiosk so I do not know what happens.

I've never flown NW or Cont., therefore I do not know what their itineraries pages look like (e.g. if there's a place for a Skymiles #). So, I appreciate your helpfulness. :)

I know on Continental's website, after I made the reservation, I went back on to view reservation and it allows you to edit traveler info and one of the options there is entering FF#, I was able to put my NW worldperks # on the ressie from there.

Anyone have first hand experience checking in on a NW or Continental flight at a kiosk with a Delta Skymiles card?

I won't go into too many details, excet that for each airline, there is a place for FF#. You click that, and then you can select Delta SkyMiles and enter the number.

One other thing - if you have medallion status with Delta, you get reciprocol benefits from NWA and Cont. (ie preferred seat selection, boarding priority, etc.). I don't think you get upgrade preferences. I heard on Cont you can, but usually there are so many of that airline's preferred members to get special treatement you would need an empty plane before you qualify so I don't even bother.

Sorry for any confusion with earlier posts. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks, Devil_Dog99. This is the info. I was looking for. :)
I never noticed that option on Delta's site. I'll have to look next time I'm checking my itineraries.

No, not at all. I appreciate your answering my questions in such a friendly and helpful manner. :goodvibes

Okay this is from Delta. I emailed them a few days ago with the same question and this was there answer. It helped me. Hope it helps you

In order to have your Delta flights added to one of our partner
airline's frequent flyer account, you must do one of the following:

1.) You can provide your account number to a Delta agent when making
your reservation over-the-telephone or after you have purchased your
ticket on delta.com. The representative will add the partner frequent
flyer number to your reservation.

2.) If you check-in online, you will have the opportunity to add your
frequent flyer number on Step 2 of the Online Check-In process. As you
are checking-in, a list of names of will appear. The second box on this
screen is the Frequent Flyer box with the option to "add/enroll." When
you click on "add/enroll," another window will pop up. From there you
may just pick the SkyMiles partner you want and enter your number in
their program. Just click submit from there and you're all set.

3.) As a final option, you can give your frequent flyer number to the
ticket or gate agent before boarding your departing flight.

Whichever option you choose, it is important that your frequent flyer
number be added to the reservation prior to departure; this will ensure
that your miles are automatically submitted to our partner airline by
Delta. Otherwise, if you are unable to add the partner frequent flyer
number, it will be necessary for you to submit the boarding passes and
e>ticket to the partner airline in order to receive credit.

We appreciate your interest in Delta Air Lines.

Sincerely,

Sounds like you're trying to do just the opposite of what I am. You want to add Delta flights to a partner airline's ff account, and I want to earn Delta Skymiles on a partner airline :teeth:

Lots of good info. in your post, however... especially about making sure they have your ff# b4 departure.

So, even if I find I can't check in at a kiosk for a NW or Continental flight with my Delta skymiles card, I can use a cc (as Devil_Dog99 suggested) and provide my ff# at the gate.

I appreciate your most informative and helpful response, WilsonFamily4 :goodvibes
