I could use some advise on traveling from AKL to Cont for a 7am chef Mickey reservation. Our last trip we used a cab with our almost two year old, which they requested a booster type car seat. We now have a 3 year old and 9 month old. Is a cab still our only option. Would they require or even have 2 car seats. MK doesn't open till 9 the day of the reservation so I assume all buses are out of the question. TIA

Will you be bringing your 9 months old car seat? If so, you could request an uber with a car seat for the three year old and use your own car seat for the 9 month, but I'm not sure how fast one would come. You can't schedule an uber with a car seat ahead of time, so you'd be at the whim of who's nearby.

I would say I wouldn't advise traveling without both kids in a proper restraint system. (Im not familiar with Florida taxi law she on this subject.) A taxi or uber is no safer than your personal vehicle. The Disney roads are busy highways.

I believe uber will only provide 1 car seat, and it will be forward facing I believe. So you will need the 9 month old's seat with you. Although...you may need to check and see if they'll allow you to install your own seat.

If you don't want to do that, I'd recommend pushing your reservation back to 7:30 or 7:45 so you can comfortably take the bus. Or, rent a car.

Transportation should be available for early ADR (bus). 30 minutes before first reservations if I remember. We travelled from POR to Chef Mickey and Hollywood and Vine on early buses. We were the only people both times. No issues making our reservations either time. Just make sure you are there for the first pickup.

Thanks for the quick responses!
We are not planning to travel with a car seat. This will be the only time we won't be using the bus transportation. I know I've read somewhere the buses often start 90 minutes before park opening. Our last trip they wouldn't guarantee the buses. And advised a cab.
We are going in only a few months and just checked, no later reservatioms. I also don't want to waste any park time sitting down eating! Ha
I assumed I can't be the first person with this problem. Maybe I'll have to take 2 taxis :upsidedow

Let me ask too...if we decided to use a car seat, would there be somewhere at the Magic Kingdom that would hold onto it for the day?

Buses start running around 6:30, from what I understand. That's cutting it way close, especially since they'll have to walk from MK to CR. With 2 very small kids...I personally wouldn't risk it. You'd pretty much have to be on a bus at 6:30 for that to work.

Large lockers at MK are 17.5x12x16 and cost $10 per day. If that isn't big enough, then no, there won't be any place to put it.

We had to take a cab from POFQ to POLY for a family photo shoot (avoiding the bus to MK then boat or Monorail to Poly transfer time). We took our 19m old's car seat with us for this very reason. I didn't want to trust the cabs to have an appropriate car seat. We requested a van taxi and they did have a Cosco sceneRa in the luggage area. It looked pretty worn. It was the only one available in the van. I don't think they typically carry two or more car seats.

You could get a taxi and request a carseat for the 9m old. Then bring a bubblebum, mifold, or saferider vest for the 3yr old. Might even be able to rent a bubblebum or other booster. If you had to rent something, a booster would fit easier into a locker I would think.

Do taxis provide rear-facing seats?

No clue really. But you could call and ask. If all else fails, you could also rent a car (and carseats for that one day). Costs time and money but you'll know you have transportation, carseats, and a place to keep the seats while you're busy. Alternatively, if you brought or rented a carseat or seats, you could taxi to your meal then taxi back to your room to store them and bus to the parks. Note that you would have to figure out what to do with them while you're eating though. Maybe keep them wherever strollers are normally left or ask bell services if they would mind holding them for a short time?

You probably wouldn't make a 7am ADR,on time, however if you could move it 7:30am, you could probably do it with using the bus. Generally buses start running around 6:30. We've done this many times. -Yes, I know they officially say an hour before park opening, but it's simply not true. For the 10+ years we've been going, we'e always been able to get a bus around 6:30ish.

ETA: Honestly, in your situation, I'd keep looking for a 7:15/7:30 ADR, but if you can't find one, either cancel or I'd just plan on getting on the first bus to MK (sometimes that early, a driver will ask where exactly you're going and will drop you off at the resort, even if not, the nice thing with CR is that it's a short walk from the MK bus stops, and I'd call Chef Mickey's first thing that morning and let them know that you're on your way, but that you're reliant on the buses. I know there will be ppl. that come on here saying they have the right to cancel your ADR/charge you the no-show etc., however in my experience, they are generally pretty accommodating. - And, it's not like you're going to be hours late, we're literally talking 15 mins.ish and if everything goes smoothly you may be on time anyways.

I don't see any other way for you to do it. Good luck OP.

I know there are seatbelt laws, etc... but are there some people who forgo car seats for a short trip like this? I've always wondered what people in NYC/big cities do in these situations.

Possibly...but it's still illegal and a terrible, terrible, terrible idea.
