Early start on the hurricane season?

I didnt realize I booked our Sept 2016 cruise with the kids during hurricane season :-( and this is my fear of getting excited about any port activities.

*thud...thud....thud, echoing though the lower decks! Stepping up on to *Tonka's * quarter deck*.......Well now Mateys...........seems our old friend Insureman has gone and found us a early blow to the season, ...me be a think' en.......well we be a bringing Tonka bow around Block Island light as we speak, heading south'ard soon and to the fine hunten ground of the Carribe......we shall see what happens. I not be a think'en this bit of a storm bit more then that and not be taken on any of those *tropical features*, but we will still be keep'en a weather eye out as we pass Hattersas in a few days.

Now listen up all you fine and fancy passengers on the Magic, you best not worry ....yet..............enjoy your passage across the great pond.........the ole ex deep water sailor will try and keep the blows away from yea!

Yeah it's totally my fault. First cruise and Mother Nature HATES me in the Caribbean. This crap happened to us 8 years ago when we tried to go to Turks during the driest month of the driest year in history - it rained. Every. Single. Day. Ugh. I'm already dreading the cruise.

Hush, this system is going to be gone by the time you get there. :P

The Atlantic Hurricane season runs June 1st through November 30th.

Right now I am counting on our jinx powers to cancel each other out.

I live in north FL and we get the Orlando TV stations here. They are forecasting this system, because it's not a tropical storm, will pull away from the state and go northeast (away from land). Keep in mind, these types of forecasts have been wrong before. IMHO I believe they are going to be right this time. As for Orlando, this weekend it is suppose to be sunny and highs around 90!!!

Skipper you are too funny. I was having a Pirates of the Caribbean flashback.:rotfl:

Least active season makes no difference to me. All it takes is one major hurricane to do some freaking serious destruction.

Try not to worry, but just in case NHC is always monitoring - http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
No worries on my part. Like the the old shellback Tonka's Skipper, I've had my share of green water coming over the bow and reaching the bridge. My wife and daughters, well that's a different story. Also I heard Tonka's Skipper has an in with King Neptune himself and will put a good word in for our transatlantic cruise. With connections like that who needs those fancy newfangled computers of the NHC.:thumbsup2

I sail in three weeks. I'm a native Floridian who has been through more than my share of hurricanes and tropical storms. I keep thinking to myself how Mother Nature better not mess with my 50th birthday trip like she did to my 40th (my party was cancelled due to Tropical Storm Arlene and never got replanned). There are going to be words if a storm messes with these birthday plans. (And I should know better than to plan a Florida vacation anytime during hurricane season - my spouse works in the catastrophic insurance sector.)

Yes Mother Nature can be finicky sometimes.:(
