I'm thinking of trying to take my newbie boyfriend on a monorail tour before we get to rope drop at MK. Is this possible? What time does the monorail start making it's rounds?

Thanks.:thumbsup2

Once you get on the Resort Monorail at the TTC the order of stops is the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Magic Kingdom, Contemporary and then back to the TTC.

We want to take a cab back to our off-site at the end of the night at MK, but I want my daughter to get a ride the monorail...would it be a good idea to board the monorail at MK and get off at one of the hotels or Epcot to catch a cab? Or the wait at the end of the night would be way too long? Or can we just go to the TTC one day and ride the monorail, even though we don't have a park ticket that day? (We are only doing WDW one day, at the MK and maybe HS but may have down time other days.)

You can take the monorail to any resort or the TTC to catch a cab. Cabs are not available at the MK area. If you want to take it to Epcot, you will have to get off at TTC and transfer to the Epcot line.

Here is a map of the monorails.

You could take the Resort Monorail one stop to the Contemporary and get a taxi from there. However it would be faster to use the walkway when going there because you will go right up to their main entrance where the taxi's usually are. When taking the Resort Monorail you will need to go from the 4th floor down to their lobby. It's not hard doing that, it's just faster when you walk from the Magic Kingdom.

If you just want to ride the Monorail for fun, I would board the Resort Monorail at the MK, ride it thru the Contemporary, but stay on one more stop to the TTC. Then transfer across the platform to the Epcot Monorail, ride it to Epcot, and catch a cab there.

That gives you the maximum monorail experience, because:

  1. You ride thru the Contemporary
  2. The Epcot line has a long straightaway where the trains get up to max speed (about 42 mph)
  3. Before arriving at the station, the Epcot line gives you a nice circle tour of Future World from above.
The taxi stand at Epcot is not far from the monorail exit. When you reach the bottom of the exit ramp, make a U-turn towards the bus area.

You're always welcome to ride the monorails from Epcot, TTC, or any monorail resort. No tickets are needed. But staying off site, you will have to pay for parking.

I've never got a monorail over 40/41 on the straight out to Epcot, however coming out of the contemporary down the hill towards TTC you can usually overspeed to 45,46 or 47 depending on factors :)

That was just my estimate from clocking the speed running alongside the train in my car. But maybe my speedometer was off by 1 mph.

Anyway, it feels faster than the curve because the train gets to kind of vibrating on the straight. Maybe also because of the forest not too far from the beam to the east.
