'Allo! I'm in the US planning a London/Disneyland Paris trip for next May. May 1 is a bank holiday in the UK and May 8 is Liberation Day in Paris. Would trying to time my trip between these two holidays be madness? We'd spend a week in London, take the train to Paris late in the day on May 1, then fly home on May 7. Are these holidays huge parties that we should stick around for, or big travel weekends that will make lines crazy long?

Can't speak for Paris, but in London the whole weekend (e.g. the Saturday, Sunday and Monday) will be definitely be busier than a normal weekend, but at the same time it won't be absolutely crazy either. There's another UK bank holiday at the end of May that coincides with a whole week where most kids are off school, so people planning big trips are more likely to wait for that instead. Neither of these dates attract big parties or anything though - to us they're just days off work; there's no massive celebrations attached to them like you guys have with 4th July for example.

Late April/early May is a school holiday in several European countries, and for France the region of Paris has this week off.

I might not call it madness, but yes, it'll be busy.

would you consider it busy enough that we should push the trip to be May 2 to 16 or go mid May? we're targeting late Spring in hopes of getting low crowds and decent weather.

If you can, I would definitely avoid school holidays. Especially Parisian/French school holidays. Go to DLP after the 7th of May. I can't promise low crowds, but they will definitely be a lot lower than during the Spring break of April/May.

Weatherwise you should be fine, the Summer heat usually starts late May/early June.
