My wife and I are taking our 2 year old daughter to Disney in March. It will be her first trip and our first trip in over 15 years. I must have been under a rock but hadn't heard anything about the FantasyLand expansion and the Toon Town closings until this weekend. I'm a little disappointed that my travel agent didn't say anything about it to us. I don't think we would have changed any scheduling but isn't that the type of thing that you would expect to be informed about?

Anyway, I see that Mickey's Toon Town will be closed as the "next phase of the FantasyLand expansion." OK, what was the previous stage(s) of the expansion? What will we be missing out on? We have been getting our daughter very excited about going to see "Mickey and Minnie's home." Will there be other places that center on M&M? She loves Disney movies and is constantly asking for Peter Pan, Cinderella, Snow White, Up, Nemo, Lion King, Sleeping "Doodie" and Woody/Buzz. This is of course outside of her regular viewings of Mickey's Clubhouse.

Does anybody have a link to information about what else may be closed down during this time? I realize Mickey's Toon Town is gone but I've heard mixed reviews of it so I guess it shouldn't be the end of the world for our trip. Is everything else in FantasyLand safe?

Thanks.

The area where 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea use to be and all the way to Small World has a fence up to protect the construction area. As of February 12th, I think, all of the Toon Town area will be closed including the railroad station. All the characters are still around but some have been move to different parks. You can get a character meet list when you check in, if you are staying on property. Or ask a CM as you enter a park. Lists of closed or refurbishing can be found on mousesavers dot com.

Thanks for the info. Where is the list on mousesavers? I searched all over the site and couldn't find it.

We are planning a trip for the 2nd week of March.

You can find closures here:

This has a good recent aerial pic of FantasyLand: (Post 116)

As far as I can tell, for our March trip the original Snow White ride and Dumbo will still be open.

There will also be a new "Disney Junior" show opening March 5 at Hollywood featuring Mickey's Clubhouse, Handy Manny, Little Einsteins and Jake and the Pirates (a new show debuting in Feb)

There are plenty of places to meet characters in all of the parks. A little research online and you can easily find where your favorites usually hand out.

**EDIT** I don't have enough posts to post links yet. Let's see if this works. Just remove the spaces from the above.

Your post wasn't up when I started mine. Thanks for that link!

this is what is posted on the WDW site:
Mickey's Toontown Fair Closing

The Magic Kingdom is beginning an expansion that will nearly double the size of Fantasyland. To make way for this transformation, Mickey's Toontown Fair will close February 12, 2011. Fantasyland construction will be completed in phases with most new attractions open by 2013.

Attraction Changes

In the meantime, you can meet Mickey, Minnie and the Disney princesses throughout Magic Kingdom. Starting Spring 2011, they will greet Guests at the Town Square Exposition Hall.

Tinker Bell and her fairy friends will be joining the cast of Epcot, where they bring magic to the International Flower and Garden Festival in the spring.

The Walt Disney World Railroad will stay open, but the Toontown station will be closed during construction.

We've gone in January before, when lots of rides go under repair for short times. I've used the WDWINFO site to track ride closings and found it to be very accurate.

So what is the word with Dumbo? Is the old one going to stay open until the new one is finished? Also I read that Small World reopened late last year. Is that safe to stay open during our trip?

Those are the two attractions I would be most disappointed if they were closed. Again we are going the first week of March.

Thanks.

They've announced the Feb closing of Toon Town, but have not announced anything about Dumbo or Snow White.

Do we know what the plans are for May/June? I could not see any info on the list but is that just because it is too soon?
I believe that the view of Fantasyland from Cinderella's Royal Table will be blocked out - are we still going to be able to enjoy most of Fantasyland does anyone know?
