Earl of Sandwich Holiday Turkey Sandwich- 2011 Thread

Had no idea this sandwich existed!! Definately on my list of must try's for our upcoming December trip!! :).

Sadly, I will be getting it w/o the cranberry sauce but I detest the stuff. :(

I wish I liked cranberry sauce.

Can't wait for the experience!!

Got to try the Holiday sandwich a few weeks ago when we were down and I loved it! I am not fond of the "everything in one sandwich", but for me, it worked! I didn't think I'd like the cranberry but for me, it wasn't overpowering and worked with the rest of the sandwich.

I cannot wait til we head back down in 2 weeks so I can get 1 more. The rest of my family doesn't like turkey so I'm happy to have something that suits me while the rest of them get whatever suits them.

Sounds & looks super yummy, can't wait to try one.... we'll be arriving at POFQ on Saturday! :cool1:

Finally got to try the Holiday sandwich a few weeks ago; picked one up in San Antonio. My opinion? This sandwich is absolutely heavenly - I don't have the words to describe exactly how delicious it is!

For all the folks that say they want to try one but leave an ingredient off, I would strongly recommend that you try the sandwich as it comes - the flavor combination is fantastic...it just works. :)

I agree! My husband is not a fan of cranberries, but I talked him into trying this one with the cranberry sauce. He was shocked at how much he liked it. I had already had one earlier in the trip and made him go back just so I could get a second. I then made him try it, just to prove to him that he'd like it.

OT: Why is it that us wives always know our husbands better than they know themselves?:rolleyes1:rotfl: This is the same man who swore he wouldn't eat Chinese food when we were dating and up until a few years ago swore there was no way he'd try sushi. Now they are two of his favorite things. He swears he hates cranberry sauce, but loved it on the EoS holiday sandwich.:rotfl: Like the previous poster said, it just works for this sandwich.

I guess it's probably worth mention that they barely include any cranberry sauce, just a small touch. Some may envision a "glob" of the jellied stuff, but in fact it's just enough to give it a small taste.

Found this very good review of the HTS over on a website called My Secret Eden (didn't list the author's name):

"After one look at a flier that was handed to me, I was sold. I immediately got in line for a Holiday Turkey Sandwich consisted of oven roasted turkey, hearty stuffing, cranberry sauce and warm gravy. The picture on ads always looks so much better, would you call that false advertisement? Anyways, this is what my sandwich looked like in day light and restaurant light. This sandwich was served similar to a Panini , except the whole bread is heated, not just the top and bottom. I guess that's why they called it a 'hot' sandwich. It is also by far the best sandwich I've tried. The mixture of turkey, stuffing, cranberry and gravy was heavenly, it's like a thanksgiving feast rolled into a sandwich. The sweetness of the cranberries is balance out nicely by the moist turkey breast and warm gravy. The foundation of a good sandwich really comes down to the bread, and this one is a sure winner. First off, the artisan bread is baked fresh when you order. It was buttery soft and moist in the middle, and crunchy on the outside. However, because my hard palette is really soft (oh, the irony), I got several scratches from eating this, but it's worth it. :)"

I love that a discussion about a sandwich has lasted 4 pages :rotfl:
Can't wait to try one next week!!

Giggling that there is an entire thread dedicated to a silly sandwich.
I've had it--it's really good.
Love EOS. It's always a stop on our vacation.

OK folks, it's just over a month until I experience the wonders of a HTS once again, and I need to see some pictures! Someone must be there dining on this amazing sandwich...please! :worship:

I had a Quiznos turkey sandwich today for lunch and while I do like Quiznos, I was so let down by their boring turkey sandwich. :scared1:

Must - See - Photos :sad2:

There is a sandwich shop here (I know they are a chain so maybe they have them in Illinois too) called Which Wich. They have a sandwich similar but I haven't tried it yet. I think I might head over there tomorrow and try it out so I can compare when I eat at EOS on January 1st!

Thanks for the Which Wich tip...there seems to be one about 20 minutes away!

In looking at some reviews for their "Thank You Turkey" sandwich (turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce) I also saw mention of another place. Unfortunately, they're just in Arizona, but it's called W.M. Sacks. They have a sandwich called "Sacks Improv," which consists of turkey breast, stuffing, cranberry sauce, lettuce and mayo on a baguette. Perhaps someone from the Phoenix, Tempe, Arcadia or the ASU campus can report on that one!

Definately eat the sandwich as is. I dont like cranberry sauce by itself, but the amunt they put on is just perfect. The sandwich wouldnt be the same without it.

I tried it last month and it's reall amazing. Im only sorry I forgot to take pics. I was too busy biting into it :rotfl: About 3/4 into it I realised I didnt take a pic and was like shoot!! lol

Which Wich "Thank You Turkey" Sandwich Review, 11/19/11:

Based on a report of a similar sandwich to The Earl's HTS, my family and I tried the "Thank You Turkey" sandwich tonight. Quick review - thumbs down.

We were hopeful of something remotely similar to the HTS. Their version consists of the turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. You can add mayo as an optional side, which brings it closer to the HTS, but still miles distant.

Consensus: The turkey was somewhat bland, the bread hard (toasted) especially on the ends. I had a large piece just fall off the sandwich, along with the nearby stuffing. As for the stuffing, it seemed like they whipped it up on demand, perhaps adding water to some ready-made stuff in the back. It was barely moist, and was also flavorless and dry. Crumbly is another good description. The cranberry sauce was OK.

What they missed on: Nothing really held the sandwich together. Perhaps its the seasoned mayo and/or The Earl's gravy that were lacking. Neither is featured in large quantities on the HTS, but that sandwich seems more thought out and "complete."

Will we return to Which Wich? Perhaps, but their Thank You Turkey is now a Thanks No Turkey to my family.

28 days until the HTS at DTD!

Here's a pic of the Holiday Sandwich, not the best pic, I opened up the sandwich and took it quickly !! This was 11/7/11 at DTD !! The sandwich was fabulous !
