Earful Tower to be Removed from Studios

Some merchandise still has the Ear Tower on it, I recently got set of shot glasses ... but most stuff seems to have Tower of Terror. Given it's size, interesting shape and visibility I think it will be the park icon. While the theater is beautiful and a great backdrop to the Blvd, I don't think it would have impact for an icon and it is the wrong shape. Castle, Tree, Ball - all large vertical shapes perfect for icon graphics. Theater is horizontal and not as easy to work with.

I remember seeing the tower on the end of Mickey Mouse Club. And it was always cool seeing it in person on the backlot tour. Kind of a shame. Also too bad about the Honey I Shrunk The Kids area, that was a cool little area. On the old backstage tour I sat on the bee from that and they did a greenscreen, that was cool

Thanks.
Funny thing is I guess it's an icon that means different things depending on where you live
Around here it means small town America as only small towns in this area have them.
My first thought has never been "movies"
I believe it is a copy of the water tower in the Disney movie studios in Los Angeles.

I've always liked the Earful Tower. I remember, YEARS ago, Disney had a mini-pin collector set of the icons- Castle, Tree of Life, SSE, and the Earful Tower. They were each less than an inch tall, and just so nice. I've kicked myself numerous times for not buying the set when it was available.

I also wonder about the "identity" of this new park. When the Studios opened, there were a LOT more exhibits related to the making of movies. I can remember watching actual animators, dressmakers working in a costume shop, the full backlot tour (including Residential Street), etc. So much was focused on the making of movies, with Beauty & the Beast and Hunchback of Notre Dame as "anchor" shows at opposite ends of the park. I guess there wasn't enough to hold interest and draw crowds, but at least there was a theme. Now what will it be, because it's not about the making of movies/shows anymore.

Booooo....but I guess the changes that they are making will make the park better.

I remember the trivia about the hat size of the Santa hat they used to put on it, seems like it always shared park icon status with the Chinese Theater, well before the demolished (: sorcerer hat.

I am so interested to hear what this rebranding is gonna be! There will be a new park icon and a new name soon enough.

Why can't they just move the tower to just behind and a little to the side of the theater? Then it would be centrally located not screw up any sight lines or views, and still goes with the theme of the entire park.

I don't think anyone knows what will happen to the water tower. Maybe they will move it somewhere else. Hoping.

This is from the sidewalk next to the DHS bus stops for non-Disney shuttles. It is very possible for this to be put somewhere and make a big impact, especially considering that in this shot, it is sitting at the back of the park almost 1/2 mile away from where I was standing.

The earful tower on my DHS you are here mug from Starbucks makes me smile every time I use it!
I guess it will soon be a "collectors item" similar to the first run of EPCOT mugs.

We will all just have to wait and see. We have to remember though that Disney is doing this all to make HS a "better" park, so we have to keep some faith in what they're doing.
