Jobs, yes. But many jobs are going away (or being suspended) as it is. The LMA workers are going to get laid off whether or not they close down the park. Same for the IJ stunt people. Same for the tour guides who ran the BLT. And on and on.Shutting down the park would cost jobs and money. This is no different than the DCA redo.
Money? Not a chance. There is no way that shutting down the park would cost money. It would save money. The faster they can complete the job, the more money they save. No one is buying a $100 one day pass to DHS right now, so you can't argue that that revenue would be lost. At best, people are paying $10 extra on their multi-day pass to make sure that they have enough days to go to all 4 parks. Some people would shrink their park passes down a day, and yes, that would cost Disney $10. But many others would still buy the same number of days and simply reallocate their time amongst the remaining parks. And any loss of park pass revenue would be more than made up for in the cost savings of getting the construction equipment off the site faster. A single day's crane rental dwarfs the lost revenue from a person buying a 5 day pass instead of a 6 day pass.
And yes, this makeover will be much like the makeover at DCA. However, two things are worth noting. DCA is configured differently, so the makeover hardly impacted many areas of the park. Paradise Pier was largely unaffected. The makeover of DHS will impact every area of the park. Second, during the time that DCA was being made over, it was not a very pleasant place to visit, and I said the same thing then as I am saying now. It would have been better for them to simply close for some period of time, like a half a year during the slower season, to give the construction teams a boost. They could do that at DHS as well. They don't have to close from now until ribbon cutting. But there are going to be some periods of time where efficiency could be improved by not having to worry about walls separating guests from construction.
