Hi there,

I have edited this title to take out the MN part, in hopes to get more answers.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions, especially those of you in the Twin Cities, MN area, for a place for ear piercing. I have always been told that Claires is a terrible place to get it done, but I am wondering where else to do it around here? There used to be a Piercing Pagoda at Ridgedale but it's gone now. This would be for my 11 yr old dd if she actually decides she wants to do it.

Thanks!

I've had my ears pierced 4 times, all at Claire's. Never had a complaint, but then again, I made sure it wasn't a 16 year old doing the piercing either.

ETA: One of the piercings is a cartliage. Never had problems with it.

How about a jewelry store........My GD had hers done at the doctors office....but that was 16 years ago.....call and ask

I had DD's done at Claire's at MOA and they did a fine job. Everything was clean, etc.

I don't live in MN, but I had the pediatrician pierce my daughter's ears. She was 10 1/2 when we did it.

Funny, that's where we were when we were looking LOL. The employees were driving me nuts though, and they all looked about 14.

She hasn't decided yet, but I wanted to have some ideas if she does.

Thanks!

if she is nervous......have them double shoot her ears.......that way it is one hit and that is it

i've had mine done at claires and piercing pagoda. I have no problems from the claires, but the girl at the piercing pagoda screwed it up. She was nervous moved her hand and did it at a bad angle and I had to let it close up because they hurt so bad for like over a week. Turns out this was like her second time doing it. Ask the person how long they have been doing it and if they are comfortable with it.

I already told her they do both at once, so I will for sure make sure of that!

Thanks for all the tips, I'm glad to hear Claires isn't awful. I will see if I can find some other places also.

I had them done at a jewelry store.
First of all, it's a quiet setting, you know, no people rushing in and out, .... Secondly, that way I was sure it was clean and it were real gold earrings (to avoid allergies)

Never regretted it!

My DD had her's done at Claires, no problems.

I posted almost the same question in September/October 2005. DD was 10 and asking to get her ears pierced. I was concerned about where to have it done, were they clean, etc. I posted and asked advice here. I had many helpful responses. HelenBear (I think it was her) gave me some useful information to consider. Also, another DISer suggested the pediatricians office. After talking to DD and reading the other posts, I decided to use the pediatrician.
UGH!!!!!! I just looked for the link to my original thread so you could read it, but because of this new search engine, I cannot find it. Funny......the new search engine says "no matches" when I look for all posts by me, TLHB70. That is crazy! I have posted over 1,600. Oh well. Maybe you can have some success. If you can find it, there are helpful suggestions included.

Thanks! Can you pull it by looking on your CP page under subscribed threads? I have threads in my list going back several years if I look that way.

Actually, most of the problem with piercing places is the gun they use. There is no way to sterilize that gun. Think about that for a moment. The actual tool they use to shove an earring through your flesh cannot be cleaned between uses.

Personally, I would ask our doctor or go to a place that specializes in piercings, with sterile equiptment and uses a brand new needle for each piercing.

When I was 10, I had them done by an RN at a piercing clinic at JCPenney's. They got infected and I had to let them close up. I had them redone - along with an extra piercing in the right ear - 3 years later, again at Penney's. It took a year for those to heal properly, as they were continually infected as well (even though I followed cleaning instructions to the letter). Another 3 years later, when I was 16, I decided I wanted two more piercings in my left ear (a total of 3 in the left, 2 in the right). My mother said no, so one night I came home from work, soaked a couple of piercing studs in alcohol while I iced my ear down, and popped them through myself. Interestingly enough, those piercings never once got infected, and were healed properly in weeks. To this day, I still have all 5 piercings and I want more!

I was just told by a friend that our pediatrician does it. After hearing stories about infections and the difficulty in sterilization, that is definitely the route I would take (if my girls were brave enough. :rotfl: ) She does charge $50, but well worth it IMO.

I tried, but I unsubscribed after a few months had passed and her ears were pierced. Sorry.
I don't know how else to find it.
Maybe another poster will know how.

Yes, our pediatrician charged $50 as well. I do agree that it was worth it for us, too.
