Not to speak for WMAlex, but I think confiscate is really not the right word. In our league, the coaches and players are on one side of the field, and the parents and spectators are on the other. The teams line up as the refs check them in (check for sneakers or cleats, check for shin pads, check for no jewelry, etc). If a player is asked to remove earrings, or a chain they generally will hand it to the coach to hold, since they are right there, and mom/dad are across the field. By the end of the game, the coach may forget they have them. I know my son's coach drove around with DS's cross and chain in his car for nearly 3 weeks. It happens.
