Eagles tour

karaoke is singing other peoples songs, either with backing tapes or with instruments, so yes, they are karaoke singers.

I remember the Beatles singing other people's songs, and Elvis - cover versions thay used to call them.

Other original BIG group names (the Monkees, Bay City Rollers etc) all sang to backing bands. Just because you were not lucky enough to get the big break doesn't make you untalented, and many bands we see that make it big have very limited talent.

I have seen the Stones live and also a Stones tribute band. Both were excellent concerts, and both sets of musicians very talented. Would I pay to watch the Rolling Stones again? Only if I won the lottery I think.

Oh Yes...Karaoke, literally means "empty orchestra" ie "backing track" not live instruments.

If there was any way I could get across to "the mainland" to see the Eagles live I would gladly pay the ticket price. As far as I am concerned the Eagles are legends - after they are gone I would love to be able to say that I saw them live. My dad saw them a few years ago and reckons it was one of the best live performances he had ever seen.

Both my parents saw the Beatles live in the late '60s and to them it's a fantastic memory to this day (they still have the concert tickets framed). I doubt anyone will feel that strongly about a tribute band in years to come...

Just my 2p's worth.

Yes,
did anyone begrudge paying £75 to see QUEEN in concert with Freddy mercury? especially as he is now gone, or are people happy with pseudo Queen cover bands who can NEVER equal his singing voice?

Hey - I would pay £24 to see Girls Aloud, especially if they are front row seats!!

I am a season ticket holder at Liverpool, going to see any concert/football match is expensive these days , especially if you have children.

If someone wants to pay £75 to see the Eagles then fine, I can understand people paying that as it may be their only chance to see the band 'Live'.
As far as tribute/rip off bands are concerned they may be alright for a night down the pub but on the 'big' stage there is no substitute for the real thing.
I cannot believe they would carry the same appeal as seeing Joe Walsh, Don Henley and co. on top form - however, each to their own, let's not get carried away here - just do what suits you best.

I have checked on a website specialising in tickets and many UK acts are just as expensive as The Eagles.

I cannot believe that I am paying £849 with Virgin for a fly-drive next August but I am doing because we can only go in the school holidays and there is no way my son is missing out on his yearly trip.
But yes, it's ridiculous - supply and demand and all that.

That is your interpretation of the word Karaoke, not mine.
The Monkeys and Bay city Rollers and tyhe Spice Girls etc are all made up bands, but we are talking about telented singer songwriters here!
Yes the Beatles and Presley sang other peoples songs, but it was not their total repatoir, they did not call themselves "Not the rolling stones" or "Elvis Presley Richard".
Yes bands who make it with limited talens dissapear, the Eagles are certainly NOT in that catergory!

No, that is the Japanese interpretation of the word Karaoke, where Karaoke originated, not mine. Cover bands are completely different and have a place in this world and should not be denegrated because they do not correlate exactly to an individuals personal feelings. Many people never get the chance to see the original artists, I would have loved to have seen the Beatles, but that is impossible now. However I have seen the Bootleg Beatles who have been running a lot longer that the originals. Also, cover bands need to be able to play and sound like the originals, which requires far more talent than sounding like yourself. Cover bands also state they are cover bands, they don't make a pretense at anything else.

As the original post said £75 is a lot to pay to see a band, especially if you are in a stadium near the back so all you can see is the big screen with bad lip sync.

Also, as pointed out, Duran Duran, Rod Stewart, Bon Jovi etc are far less expensive but they probably carry the same entourage.

As I said, thats yopur interpretation, not mine.
Cover/Karaoke bands may interpret their idea of what the band is, but they are not the band!
Cover bands ahve a place in the world in my opinion, the same way as Traffic wardens , lawyers etc..do, they are here but would be a better place without them.
For the price of a ticket to a copy band, you can buy the video or Cd of the original, why waste your money on people who cannot get on with their own music so copy others?
The tickets at £75 are not at the back of the hall, and are a lot less than a ticket to a festival with worse views.
Do you know they carry the same entourage? or again, is that your "interpretation"?
You must live in a sheltered world if you think that £75 is a lot to pay for a ticket for anything!

OK Sue noted.
no more comments from me as we in this postings are now at odds with no hope of agreement.

OK, sorry to sound daft, but even at the grand age of 41, I can't remember what the Eagles sang - could someone let me know (Back in the 70's if it wasn't David Cassidy or Donny Osmond - then I wasn't interested) :)

Thanks

Hotel California is about all I can remember, but then again I'm afraid the Eagles used to bore me to tears (sorry Eagles fans).

Well, some of them are:-

Take it Easy 72
Peaceful, easy feelin 72
Witchy woman 72
desperado 73
Tequila sunrise 73
Already gone 74
best of my love 74
One of these nights 75
Lyin Eyes 75
Take it to the limit 75
After the thrill is gone 75
Hotel California 76 (one of my favourites)
New Kid in town 76
life in the fast lane 76
Wasted time 76
The Last Resort 76 (My number one favourite eagles song, with lyrics like
"We satisfy our endless needs and
justify our bloody deeds,
in the name of destiny and the name
of God

And you can see them there,
On Sunday morning
They stand up and sing about
what it's like up there
They call it paradise
I don't know why
You call someplace paradise,
kiss it goodbye" )

the Long run 79
I can't tell you why 79
In the City 79
Heartache tonight 79
The sad cafe 79

One Of These Nights
Take It To The Limit
Lyin' Eyes
Desperado
Take It Easy
Best Of My Love
Life In The Fast Lane

sure there are many more but that's all I can remember.

And slightly changed:- :-)

"On a dark desert highway
Cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas
Rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance
I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy, and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself
This could be Heaven or this could be Hell
Then she lit up a candle
And she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor
I thought I heard them say

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely place (background)
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year
Any time of year (background)
You can find it here
You can find it here

Her mind is Tiffany twisted
She's got the Mercedes bends
She's got a lot of pretty, pretty boys
That she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard
Sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember
Some dance to forget
So I called up the Captain
Please bring me my wine
He said
We haven't had that spirit here since 1969
And still those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely Place
Such a lovely Place (background)
Such a lovely face
They're livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise
What a nice surprise (background)
Bring your alibies

Mirrors on the ceiling
Pink champagne on ice
And she said
We are all just prisoners here
Of our own device
And in the master's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember
I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the Disboard I was before
Relax said the Moderator
We are programed to recieve
You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave
"

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Oh I remember Hotel California, wasn't that the song that John Tickle sang on Big Brother 4 while he was watering the garden. :)

I also know Take It Easy and Lyin' Eyes

I don't think the Eagles were really my thing

I knew you'd get that one from the BB connection Mandy ;)

Sorry, but final response. Florida Sun, please close the thread if this appears offensive, it will not be intentional.

Karaoke, not my interpretation, its the real meaning. If others interpret differently that's their choice, and that's probably karaokeing karaoke. :teeth:

"For the price of a ticket to a copy band..."; listening to live music is a far more enjoyable and social experience than listening to pre-recorded music. Tribute bands play the music because they want to pay tribute to their musical heroes.

"Entourage" ; you may notice the word "probably" in my original statement. Its a considered estimate, not an interpretation. Duran Duran probably have the similar amount of backroom staff as the Eagles. They would probably pay the same for the venue that they play in etc.

"Sheltered world"; oh dear! I think we all understand the price of many things. and yes I do think £75 for a ticket is a lot to pay.

Wow Deedee, I bet you never envisaged the thread going this way :earseek:

Honest Florida Sun, that's my final statement in this thread. :wave2:

No Richard i didn't, especially to get so offensive still each to there own wouldn't pay for us all to be the same thank goodness KEEP MUSIC LIVE
