We're staying on site but I'm sure it works the same way.
I grabbed an old left over gift card, went on disneygiftcard.com, registered the plastic card and then transfered the e gift card serial number to the plastic gift card. I had multiple e-gift cards that I added to one physical gift card.
I imagine you could grab an empty card like at Target and transfer your balance to that if you don't have an old one laying around

You can't just grab an empty GC at a store. It has to be activated. The only way to activate a GC is to add funds to it when you purchase it.

OP, the eGC should have a bar code that can be scanned at the register in Disney. At the very least, the CM can enter the serial number and PIN manually.

You just show the barcode to the cashier who will scan it. It doesn't matter where you are staying when it comes to using gift cards.

You cannot store a GC in your MDE but you can use them for mobile ordering. You just have to enter the GC info each time.

What an irritating requirement. I wonder if they're intending to discourage gift card usage?

copy the GC#'s into your phone and then copy and paste for mobile order. did this 2 weeks ago was not that much effort.
would not use it for ILL, they would perhaps sell out before you could get the GC# into the app/

I thought I saw on FB that someone had an electronic GC and took a picture of the bar code and CMs were able to just scan the picture/bar code from the electronic GC (or any GC I am guessing). They said this way the cards wouldn't get lost.

OP, I had the same as you, an electronic GC from a gift and decided it was just easier when I was in a store to purchase a Disney GC and I transferred the funds from the electronic to the card.

I keep the gift card number in a note on my phone and cut and paste it into the MDE app when I go to pay during mobile ordering.

For TS restaurants - The server had to take my phone to the payment terminal to scan it every time except once at Tony’s where they walked over with me to scan it.
