Hi there :flower3:

I know that quite a few DISers use E-Bay so I hope you don't mind my asking a question.......

I recently sold a new airbrush compressor - from late DH's work equipment.
I'm not a trader.

The buyer has just contacted me to say it isn't powerful enough to power his airbrush :sad2:

I don't think there's a fault with the machine and clearly stated the maximum PSI on the listing.

After searching several forums it would appear that low pressure is a problem but can be overcome somewhat by persevering and making a few adaptations.

I've replied to the buyer suggesting he reads the forums himself and tries a few of the tips.

There's an unused warranty card in the box-will this be still valid even though the compressor has been sitting in my attic for 3 years?

I've asked whether he might have a local supplier (the manufacturer is in the US) to speak to........

Can anyone advise what my responsibilities are to the buyer - I want to do the right thing but don't have a clue what this is :confused3

I've e-mailed E-Bay to ask their advice.

Thanks for your help :flower3:

hi you have started of well, looks like the buyer has not asked for his money back.
it sound like the fault is by the buyer.
you can be nice and say you will take it back as long as he pays the p&p on return and refund his auction price only.
or sorry can't help.

its upto you, but my diggest problem at the moment is i send 90% of my parcels by recorded delivery, had a few when it been returned as the buyer could not be bothered to pick up the item from royal mail and expect me to return to them again.

but that ebay for you.

Thanks Les :thumbsup2

It seems harsh (I'm a bit of a "soft touch") but the thought most foremost in my mind is that the item is "as described" and the buyer should have done more online research to see whether it would do the job he wanted it to :confused3

I can only assume he's wanting it to paint large areas and it's more suited to small areas such as nails and airbrush tattoos.....Saying that DH used one for painting helmets, bike parts, car panels.........I suppose he just persevered and learned to use it to it's max potential :)

I'll see what he comes back with :flower3:

if you stated the psi/model number I would say its the buyers fault.
hes purchased the wrong item, you haven't mislead him or sold him something faulty. Ive bought the wrong thing before (guitar resistors) its my fault.

I would nicely and politely tell him that all info in the description was accurate and its not your fault that they have bought the wrong item

:) Thanks all :grouphug:

He's now mailed me to say it gets hot - which compressors do.........Now I'm not sure whether this means it's faulty or it just gets hot :confused3

He says he's mailed the manufacturers to ask their advice so I've said I think that's a good move and to let me know what they say.

Thing is, if it is faulty, I'm not sure whether there's any point in him sending it back to me as he's in Ireland and the postage was £11..........I can't mend it so I'll be another £11 out of pocket besides the original auction fee and postage :headache:
The manufacturers are pretty good at repairs/returns so I'm going to suggest him asking if he can return it to them, postage paid, under the warranty - I'm assuming the warranty will be valid if it's not been filled in and has been sitting in my attic / 3rd bedroom for the last two years? :confused3

I feel like telling him to keep it and I'll return him the auction amount :sad2:

There's a very good reason I'm a nurse, not a business woman / manager........:rotfl:

Don't pay his return postage! You might find that he suddenly doesn't want to return it when you suggest he returns it at his own cost...

sounds like he is using the compressor on too bigger area so its overheating
unless its genuinely broken, dont refund

and dont let him take you for a ride!

The little I know about airbrushing tells me you're right :)

I think he expected me to be perturbed when he told me he'd contacted the manufacturers - didn't think I'd agree it was a good move ;)

Not heard anything yet but I'll try and be "tough" :upsidedow
