We're just starting to research buying a dyson vacuum as I've heard great things about them...any tips which type to buy, stores with the best deals, etc.?
Thanks!

kohl's has a 30% off code coming up next week (take 30) you can use online...That's how I bought mine and it was the best deal I found at the time....I got the purple one, honestly don't remember the model# but I LOVE my Dyson

Thanks-we have a Kohl's about 15 mins. away. I'll check out Sunday's ads!

My mom got our family a Dyson a month ago and we love it! She got it at Bed, Bath and Beyond, and they allowed her to use the 20% off coupon. (A tip: even though these coupons have an expiration date, they will accept them, no matter how old!)

She told me the people there told her that the pet vacuum wasn't really worth it. It was the same as the basic Dyson, with just a few extra attachments to vacuum your pet. :) I don't think Bailey would be happy with me if I tried to vacuum him!!! :rotfl:

I got my Dyson at Kohls also with one of their discounts. It was by far the best deal I have ever seen on one around here. As for which model, I have the Dyson animal because I have a yellow lab that sheds like crazy. It didn't come with attachments to vacuum the dog, but it does work great on picking up dog hair. I don't know if it is any better or worse than the regular one though.

Happy Shopping!

Thanks for the input!
I just did a quick search and Kohls has the lowest price one...the basic model for $349.99. I wonder if I could print the offer out & take it to Home Depot (don't they offer a price match?)? Also, if there's going to be a 30% off code coming for Kohls, would it apply to this price?

I just bought my Dyson @ Sears on Sunday. I bought the mid line one and love it:banana: Sears had them on sale and you received a $50 gift card.

When we were shopping for ours, I was told time and time again that the only difference between most models is the attatchments. The yellow vac is the standard one, the animal (purple) has all the regular stuff and then an attatchment that has a rotating brush to make it easier to clean the couch. The full kit vac has the animal attatchment plus a hard floor attatchment (it works great on the hardwood floor.)

You should only buy "up" for the attatchments that you will use.

I bought the purple Animal because of pet hair. I do really like the attachment for the car and steps. I would strongly suggest trying one before you buy. I would not have bought if I had tried it. The one I had before did just as good and the attachments were a breeze. I think the attachments on the Dyson are very hard to use (so depends on how often you use them). Also steps are a bear because it's heavy! And yes it reaches up the stairs but you have to carry it down first and then back up. My sister just bought a new Oreck and it's nice and much lighter, I used my Dyson and it came in and still picked up pet hair, so I'm not so sure about the claim that the Dyson picks up so much either, guess it depends on what vacumn you are used to.

I bought the basic model at Kohl's about a month ago. Regular price was $329.99, on sale for 299.99 in the ad, reduced to 289.99 in-store, then 30% off. Total price was $203 plus tax. Cannot beat that price.

I don't like mine either and use my ten year old Oreck much more often. The Dyson is heavy and really doesn't pick up nearly as well as I'd hoped. Plus, my first one was a lemon and was in three times before they finally replaced it.

Wish I'd tried one first, cause I regret the purchase. And its a bad thing to hate your vaccuum.

Consumer reports did not rate the Dyson as high as some cheaper models. I can't put my hands on that issue now, but if I do I'll post their recommendations.

The Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 model had the highest rating for cleaning carpet and bare floors. It also got the highest rating for sucking up cat hair.
From CR, the model above is only $150. I have a Dyson, and I must say that when it worked, it was good, but not great.

Target has Dysons at decent prices (still expensive but they might go on sale once in a while)

I received the regular Yellow dyson for my wedding shower last year. I absolutely LOVE it. We have two cats that shed and its amazing to me how much hair comes up from the carpets. I dont find the attachments difficult to use at all. Mostly I just use the brush-hose one to get the cat hair off of the furniture and it works great.

The first time we used our Dyson we were both amazed and disgusted by how much dirt was in the cannister. We usually vacuum about once a week and the carpets always looked clean. As it turned out, there was a whole layer of dust and god knows what else lurking in our carpets that our Hoover just couldnt handle.

I definitely think Dysons are worth the money for people who want regularly CLEAN carpets and a very easy to use bagless cannister.
