Dyson Vacuum

I bought the yellow one the last time Targer ran that offer. We have had it around 6 months and we really like it. It picks up lots of stuff. It come with 3 attatchments and they are easy to use. So far we really like it.

I just wanted to add that IMHO, Consumer Reports isn't all it's cracked up to be. For example, they rate the 2004 Saturn Ion as a terrible car, one you should never buy used because it's totally unreliable, and guess what? Mine has never given me a moment's trouble. :confused3

I guess I tend to rely more on the experiences others have had with a product than a magazine review ... but of course, YMMV.

Ha ha!!! My Ion is awesome!!!!!

I can't decide between the Dyson Ball Animal and the old style. Anyone have any experience with the ball vacuum?

I purchased my purple Dyson animal from Kohls for less that $300. I waited for a 30% off scratch card to get the great price. They have those scratch cards (15, 20, 30% off) about 4 times a year. You will need a Kohls charge card though.

BTW, I love mine too.

Does the Animal (purple) really do anything different then the classic Dyson (yellow)?
I think the Animal (which we have) comes with more attachments than the yellow one, but otherwise it's pretty much the same machine.

Another vote for Dyson from me. We have two Golden Retrievers, absolutely unreal how much hair they shed.... but we love them so much

We bought the yellow one, and it's not just a vaccuum to us it's a Dyson. We even CALL it Dyson - ok I know pretty odd, but it's an amazing machine!!

I highly recommend the Dysons, but go to somewhere like Linens N Things and try them out before you buy - for us it was SO worth it to spend the extra and get "the ball" versus the animal. For me, the animal is just a name they gave to it to get more pet owners to buy - I found I liked the ball so much better - it is super easy to maneuver and twists and turns without making you twist and turn. We have a black lab who sheds constantly and it does a phenomenal job. Like someone else, when we first got it, we went over our old vacuums work and had a full canister. It's disgusting what you are breathing & walking on each day. Good luck!

We have 3 dogs and 3 cats....not to mention kids and husband (don't know who is worse). I've tried the Oreck, the Hoover WindTunnel, Kenmore, and the Electrolux. Nothing , and I mean Nothing cleaned up animal hair like the big purple Dyson Animal!!! We have had ours about 3 years, in fact just recently the hose was so worn that I had a hole in it. When I called Dyson to ask if I could purchase a new one, they said no prob and just sent a free replacement part. Now it says you never have to change the filter, but I do change ours about every 6 months ( and I vacuum daily). I do find that the machine picks up better that way.

The funny thing was, was that I bought the Dyson on a Fri night, got home about 10 and vacuumed til about midnight. I was so grossed out by everything it kept picking up. Well, by Sunday night, my DH was like "will you please go vacuum next door....you're driving me crazy!" Also the Dyson carpet crumbles for the machine work really well in making your house smell nice. Good luck and have fun with it!

Consumer Reports bases is reliability ratings on the experiences of its readers. Their auto reliability ratings are the result of questionnaires on approximately 500,000 reader vehicles. That doesn't mean every single car of a model that gets a bad mark is going to experience similar problems, however. As you say, YMMV. ;)

WE HAVE THE DC07 (SLIGHTLY CHEAPER THAN THE ANIMAL I THINK) It is the best vacuum I ever owned, it really has decreased the overall amount of dust in my house, and I only vacuum 1x (maybe 2x) per wekk.

We've had the Dyson yellow for about a year (got ours on close-out from Home Depot for $249!!--they usually sell for over $400!) . I love it on all our regular carpets. My one sticking point is on area rugs. We have a large area rug in our dining room under the table. The Dyson doesn't work well on it. You have to set it on the Bare Floor mode and it just won't pick up very well. If you set it on the Carpet mode it makes a horrible racket (meaning the belt turning appartus won't turn).

But for regular carpet the Dyson is the way to go.

And we have 1 cat presently (short hair tuxedo). We used to have 2 cats--one was a American longhair. When he shed it was like hair tumbleweeds everywhere!

Thanks for posting this. I am in the market for a new vacuum and my neighbor just LOVES her Dyson and just about talked me into it, but what you posted above has always concerned me. I have stone floors, wood floors and berber and lots of area rugs on the stone & wood. I hate hate hate to vacuum and would love one that is all purpose. :confused3 I have a mega huge fur ball living in my house and shedding constantly!

I got a Dyson Animal last christmas and I LOVE it. We have 2 cats and a 4 yr old daughter and I was horrified at what that thing sucks out of what looks like clean carpet! :scared1: I also love how easy it is to empty, and I never have to touch the dirt...unlike my old hoover which always spilled in the emptying process..requiring more clean up lol.
I have the stairs attachment and it does a great job, and the hose is long enough that I can do them all without having to move the vaccum, i just leave it at the bottom of the stairs. It does a good job on my hard floors too. :thumbsup2

I realize that, of course. :)

My Ion example was just one of many I personally know of. I wasn't going to take the time to list them all.

I would think the replies to this thread comparing people's experiences in owning a Dyson vs. other brands CR rates highly reinforce my point. ;)

I LOVE our Dyson Animal. I had a Hoover WindTunnel before that & hated it. Not nearly as good as my old Hoover when they still made metal parts. The Dyson is awesome!!! We have a retriever & a beagle & it picks up hair great. I wasn't sure I'd like a bagless but it's so easy to dump & I get a kick out of seeing all the stuff it picks up. Grosses out my DD! The only negative is that DH won't use it - says he's scared to use it & doesn't want to since it's purple. :sad2: Though it's a good way for him to get out of work, I don't mind cause I love vacuuming now.

We have super cheap regular & berber carpets & it works fine on both. I use the attachment on our area rug & it works fine. Mine was refurbished through Amazon & we've had it about a year. After looking at them a few weeks, it appeared in my gold box & then I applied for the Amazon VISA to get another $30 off.

How is the dyson on bare floors. We have laminent flooring in our living room & hallway and ALWAYS cleaning up dog hair. How does it do?

i'm thinking the dyson ball vaccuum for me.....how much basic package? cheapest price, linoleum and carpet? what color is the ball vaccuum??? i've owned a rainbow and i love it, but i can't wait forever to get it worked on, and i bought it refurbished so i have trouble getting it repaired....no belts to repair in dyson??

We have hardwood in the dining room and linoleum in the kitchen. Works fine on both of those for us.
