Dyson Vacuum... Opinions please!

I've heard really good things about this vacuum, but the one thing I'm worried about is how hard it might be to push. I have back problems. My current vacuum has the power drive on it and it is possible for me to clean the entire house without pain. Can anyone share their opinions on how hard this is to push?

I'm looking at one of the less expensive models (hah) not The Ball, but I might consider The Ball if it moves easier. (That said, I do have carpal tunnel and I think I remember reading that The Ball model was really hard on the wrist if you had c.t.)

Please share!

I have a Dyson and love it! It's the cheapest model (I think) DC 07 or whatever that is... The ball is much easier to push, but I don't think mine is difficult to push. I tried it out in the store to make sure. Go to Target and give it a shot - or wherever they have them on display. You may find the less expensive one (that works very well!) is fine to push. But you may need the one with the ball. Only you can be the judge of that. :thumbsup2

Good luck!

My DH bought us a Dyson a couple of months ago. I absolutely love it. It is so light that it maneuvers with very little effort. We have a basement and it is so light and easy to carry up & down the stairs. I don't know what model he bought and it is currently downstairs.

I have the Ball. It sat in my living room in the box for about a month while I got used to the idea that I spent nearly $600 on a vacuum cleaner. It was in the care on more then a few occasions ready to go back but once I finally took it out I never looked back!

It's so easy to use and turn and get where you want it to go and man I vacuum just to see what it will pick up. Many days I'll go over the floors multiple times. The first time I used it I cleaned out the chamber a few times. Didn't realize how GROSS my floors were before then.

The I realized I can vacuum up my hardwood kitchen floor and I fell in love!

I've had it for awhile now and never regretted it once it was out of the package.

Mine is purple, no idea what level one it is.

Very easy to push, I was actually surprised how easy when I first used it.

I have had mine almost 3 months now and love it. It is SO much nicer than my previous vaccums and like the commercials say it does not clog...ever. We have two cats (one with very long hair), a dog and I have long hair. We generally kill a vaccum once a year due to all the hair - I think this will be the first vaccum where that does not happen.

Yep....I second, third, fourth, etc. all the comments. I think the Dyson is rather lightweight. I wouldn't call it light as a feather, but definitely lighter than my old WindTunnel. I too have the Purple Animal and personally don't suggest anyone waste the money on the extra attachments. Mine at the time cost $100 more than the yellow and all we got was a couple extra attachments and some cleaner for the carpet.

I will warn you though.......the first time you run it you may be disgusted by just how much dirt it sucks up! When we bought ours I swept the rugs before using the Dyson, kind of like the old Kirby in house demos. Anyways, I ran the Dyson and I was grossed out because of all the dirt the WindTunnel left behind. I kid you not, I had to empty the Dyson canister 3 times before my carpet was clean of dirt.

I didn't want to spend that much on the Dyson, but dh talked me into it and I am happy that he had :) Another thing I love about it is all you need is a quarter to get to the beater bar to remove, (in our case) dog hair. Everything comes apart very easily and instead of having to buy expensive filters you just rinse and let this one dry overnight.

I have the purple one called Animal. I love it!!! It is not that hard to push and I carry it up and down stairs with no problem. I have a golden that stays inside and I could not believe how well this vacuum works!! Like another poster I could not believe what was coming out of my carpets. I also have hardwood floors and it works beautifully on the floors. I rarely use the attachments that came with it, so I would not get the optional attachments if they are a separate purchase. My model has a extending wand from the handle and I use it quite a bit to get to hard to reach areas and on my stairs. I highly recommmend any of the Dysons. It is alot of money, but IMO well worth it.

It's an okay vac. I know shocking that someone doesn't LOVE the Dyson, huh? It's a great vac, but really there are others that do just as good of a job. I have both the Dyson Animal 14 and the Kenmore Progressive HEPA (the top of the line Kenmore one which is around $300). Kenmore does just as good a job AND it's sort of self propelled (it doesn't advertise that, but it's pretty close!). Kenmore has bags though.

I not only don't LOVE it, I HATE it. I'm thinking of throwing it in the trash. Seriously.

I think its very heavy (but my other vac is an Oreck - eight pounds). Mine was in the shop I think four times in the first six months. They finally gave me a new one - and it just doesn't pick thinks up as well as it should for the money - either my carpets are really clean (yeah, right) or it doesn't pick up as well as everyone else's).

I like my Dyson, but I am not in Love with my Dyson. I have the DC15 Animal (ball) and it is very easy to push. I think it is a little bit on the heavy side when lifting it up the stairs but I have tendonitis in my strongest wrist. I would suggest the Dyson because it picks up everything possible and it is disgusting how much it picks up. I agree with the poster above, do not waste your money and buy the animal version because the attachments have never worked for us.

If I ever had to buy another vacuum, I would buy a Dyson again (just not the animal!!)

My husband just bought a Hoover Fusion which (according to Hoover) is supposed to work better than the Dyson. It pretty much looks like the same thing, but it only costs $100 at Sams Club. He LOVES it. He read alot of positive reviews on it first before he bought it. He showed me what it picked up out of our carpet and I was impressed. Plus we saved over $300.

I did the same thing as the other poster--mine sat in it's box for a month while I thought it over. LOL I have not regretted opening it at all. I too had to empty the canister a few times the first time I used it, and I have no pets and what I consider a "clean" house! The amount of dust and sand it picked up was just awesome. I have a DC07 full gear version, and I don't really use all the attachments either. I find it easy to steer and turn but it's kind of heavy to actually pick up.

I bought mine on base (we are military) for $369, which was a great deal!

DH is now convinced as well...we are both Dyson believers!!

Thanks everyone for the replies!

I'm glad to hear it's not hard to push.

I'll look into the Hoover Fusion too. (I am assuming it is bagless as well - I don't want to mess with bags anymore - with dog hair etc they fill up too fast!)

We were in the market for a Dyson. We went into a Sharper Image and asked the associate to show us the features and such. It was obviously the first time she'd handled it. Well she gave up and another salesman came over and he didn't have any luck either. Finally I looked at my wife and said, "let's go". The guy asked me if I wanted for him to ring it up for me. I told him we'd have to sleep on it and he handed me his card. Ended up buying an Electrolux and am happy with it. He is likely still wondereng why he lost the sale.

Good post...
I posted a while back about Dyson vs. Oreck and got great replies. I still haven't purchased a new vac yet though.

I got the Dyson Animal mainly because of the pet hair problem. I think it is heavy to carry up and down the stairs. But I HATE the attachments!!! The arm is so long when pulled out it's almost impossible to do the stairs. It's also hard to switch back and forth which was easy with my old one. I guess my Eureka was good because I don't notice a lot more than I did with it. Since it's not in a bag it probably appears like its more.

We usually did not buy cheap vacs. But no matter what brand I bought I was never happy with it. I wanted to pay a little more and buy a vac that would really do what I want and last awhile.
We looked at Dyson and Oreck. I went into a vacuum store and walked out with a Simplicity. We have been really happy with it and feel better about it since it has MUCH more metal on it than most vacs. (I am old enough to remember my gradmother's and mother;s older vacs being mostly metal and lasting for years. While my vacs fall apart within two.)
After looking our Simplicity over, DH has always been happy we did not buy a Dyson. (plastic, as most vacs are.)

At another vac shop I mentioned what we had and asked his thoughts in comparison to a Dyson. He pretty much said the same as the other guy. (And he sold both.) He said he consistently has more Dyson's in his store for repair than any other brand. But made me wonder, are they just that more popular? :confused3

We just bit the bullet and bought a Dyson. Went to Sears and it was on sale. I asked the salesperson what's the best vacuum in here. He walked me to the Dyson's and said take your pick. Said this is the only time he disagrees with Consumer Reports.

Dw bought a new dining room table and said thats my Xmas present so I bought the vacuum and said thats for you :D
