All of a sudden my wife's KA has started to play up! When you start it the idle revs up and down on it's own, it runs really rough and smells like it's using too much petrol. It also cuts out when you take your foot of the gas.

Have had our mobile mechanic round and he couldn't diagnose the fault with his diagnostic machine, so got the AA to tow it to our usual garage and after a week they can't find the fault either! So only thing left now is to get it to the local Ford garage (I can see a large bill looming at dealer labour rates :scared1: ).

Hope it doesn't cost too much Tim:)

My sister has the same problem with her Renault Clio, she has had several mechanics look at it say they couldn't diagnose the problem, then another said its one thing and repaired it but she still has the problem occasionally.

Hope you manage to get if fixed, could you let me know what the fault is once its repaired.

I hope you manage to get it sorted soon Tim

I had a lot of problems with my Renault Espace last year, it cost a fortune to put right and went in the garage 3 times. It turned out to be the injection, and it would just cut out on me

I hope it doesn't cost too much to put it right

Mandy :)

Ford dealer just called and it looks like the PCM (power control module) is the problem.
Apparently on 2002 KAs water can get into the wiring loom which can corrode the connections on the PCM. So they need to remove the dashboard to get to the PCM! Just that is going to take 3 hours:scared1:

plus the 2 hours they spent trying to trace the problem.

DW is really upset - it's going to cost us a fortune :sad1:

oh dear !! that doesn't sound good at all :sad2: if its any consolation tell Julie these things always happen to me as well :headache: whenever we seem to get a few spare pennies something is bound to break down

Oh dear sorry to hear the lastest on your DW's KA.
This is something else we all take for granted & like most things it always cost a fortune to fix. Will send some pixie dust pixiedust: for the car & a hug for DW  to cheer her up.

Not good then:mad: Hopefully it will resolve the problem albeit a very expensive problem.

Turns out it is water damage to the PCM (ECU) and we will need a new one :(
So it's going to cost mega-bucks :scared1:

I feel a letter to Ford coming on - this is a know problem with KAs and Fiestas. They even modified the loom sealing on later models.
Probably won't get anywhere, but it's worth a go :)

I'm blooming annoyed  Just found out that my FIL has been to our usual garage and complained that they couldn't find the fault on DW's KA!

We have used this garage for years and they have always given us a very good honest service in tha past (something that is rare when trying to find a garage!). They had DW's KA for over a week and struggled to find the fault. Eventually they had to give in (they had asked for more information and data from the local Ford garage but they wouldn't give it to them).
So even though they had had it for a week they didn't charge us a penny - they were really apologetic that they could find the fault.

Then my interfering old bat of a FIL goes round and starts giving them grief! I could swing for him :furious:

FIL's are just lovely :headache: we have just come away from a family party early because mine was being a stroppy git :headache: :headache:
