We go to Orlando every two years for two weeks and do a park about every other day. Our next trip would be May-June 2005. At that time we will have a new addition to the family as we are expecting a son next month. My DW and I are trying to decide if we should do the Disney trip next year or not. Our main concern is to not put too much on our new addition with the long days, heat, etc. I have seen other on these boards who have said that they have stayed on-site and were able to do a couple of hours in the morning and the evening while taking the tram back to the hotel in the afternoon. We own a timeshare offsite and would like visit Universal and Seaworld as well so that is really not an option. However, we will have my DW’s parents, aunt, and uncle with us to help us out with our new addition.

So my question is for those who have gone with an infant, should we do it or wait another year? And if we do go do you have any strategies for us?

Thanks!

Depends on the infant! My DD was a great baby...happy to sleep in her stroller at nap time, not very cranky, just real pleasant and happy-go-lucky! She celebrated her first birthday at WDW with us and her grandparents and we all had a fabulous time!!

Now DS is another story....not so amenable, rather fussy and quite demanding....so our first trip with him at 17 months was quite different from his sister's but since we knew how he was, we went in with different expectations.

With DD we hardly ever went back for naps, rest, etc. in the afternoon since she loved to sleep in her stroller. We used that time to take turns on the adult rides :) With DS, however, we let him take a morning nap every day before leaving the hotel just before lunch time, and then managed to coax him to rest about 30 minutes in the stroller in the afternoon so we didn't have to do a second naptime at the hotel, although that would have been best....but we just couldn't spend that long in the hotel every day.

Let your baby come along and see how he/she is, and how you adapt to being a parent. Some parents I know take their kids everywhere at any age....but some do not like taking little kids on trips...think it's too hard and requires to much gear. Find what your comfy spot is and then you'll have your answer ;)

We brought our 14 month old in November and he loved it! He'd squeal when he saw characters, kissed and hugged on them. He enjoyed rides, pointing and laughing. We were a bit worried, but it went so well. He'd nap in his stroller in the morning. We'd take a break around 2:00, go back to the condo ( we own a timeshare also) for a nap and swim, then return to the parks around 6:00 and stay until closing.

We're going next Feb/Mar and our new baby will be turning 1 on our trip. :) Anyway, we go when the weather is not hot because I would not want to be there with 3 little ones in hot weather. If you are really concerned about the hot days, maybe consider going either earlier in the year or later in the year when it's cooler! I think you should go no matter what though. heehee ;) Good luck!

We took both of our girls just before their first birthdays. They had wonderful times. You'll know your kid best, so just plan a schedule that will keep everyone happy and rested.

Hi - We went last year when our DS was 11 months and it was GREAT! He was so easy to travel with. We'd spend the entire day at the parks and he would nap in the stroller. Of course he wasn't crawling or walking yet so he was completely under our control.

The only thing we planned in advance for was this...He was transitioning from formula to milk so we made sure that we set it up that he'd have formula in the morning and evening so we could just do regular milk and water at the parks. Worked out perfectly.

We stayed off-site and had 2 grandmas in tow who would sit with him while we took DS5 on some rides. Actually DS1 rode quite a few rides too.

Good luck with your decision and an early congrats on the impending arrival of your DS!
