I'm planning a couple of long weekends at DW next year, and I love staying on property but the rates at even the values are cRaZY - $250 + a night(!) so I'm looking at staying at one of the 'Good Neighbor Hotels' that surround DS. How do these places compare, are they like values, mods...? I know they don't really have any other benefits, but I guess I could live without, but I do need accessibility. I understand they have shuttles to the parks...? How does that work, and can they transport me in a wheelchair like Disney buses do? Thank you!

You'll get more help on the Orlando Hotels Sub Forum

and this is a good place to start ... it's lists all the Good Neighbor hotels.

but you are correct, they get no onsite benefits BUT we have stayed at many of them and have had great experiences. We drive, but shuttles are going to be minimal, often needing reservations or costing something. COVID has impacted them so be sure to talk direct to hotels on what they offer.

Pre-covid we stayed at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista, which is right at the footbridge to Disney Springs. They had motor coach service to the parks; I believe at the time the bus to MK/AK ran on the hour and the bus to Epcot/Studios ran on the half-hour, something like that. It was pretty convenient, I thought, and no extra charge. The hotel was lovely, exactly what you'd expect from a Hilton regarding cleanliness, service, restaurants, etc., room had a king bed with sofa, fridge, coffee maker, big room with big bathroom, and we each had coupons for 2 free bottles of water and 2 free coffees every day. I do not remember if the bus was handicapped-accessible, though.

To take off on leebee's post, you can also explore the Disney Springs hotels which have a more organized bus system. It would be the closest to the Disney system.

They are not Good Neighbor hotels and all have fees, but you can find them here ....
