Hi,
I'm planning a trip to Disney this February after Presidents' Week. I haven't been there in a few years, since I was a teenager. My problem? I'm very afraid of rides with drops. You know that slide at the beginning of Pirates of the Caribbean? It's about as much of a drop as I can take. I don't mind rides that shake or spin or go fast, though. I can ride Thunder Mountain Railroad and Body Wars with no problem, but I get queasy even looking at Splash Mountain.

My question for you all is do you know anything about any of the newer rides? Which ones have drops and which ones don't?

I'm especially interested in knowing about Misison Space and Test Track.

thank you!

Check out the unofficial guide to WDW by Bob Sehlinger. It rates each ride for things like Shake, Rattle, and Roll and the Fear factor. You can get it at your local bookstore, or, my personal favorite, check out your local library!

Hi, I'm in the same boat! I hate drops. IMO, the only rides at Disney with intense drops are ToT and Splash Mt (my friends make me go it every time, even though I hate that feeling).

There are no drops whatsoever on Test Track. I have not been on Mission: Space, but from what I hear, there is spinning but no drops.

Pirates has a drop, and Maelstrom in Norway at Epcot has a few mini drops (similar to Pirates, although less intense IMO).

Rock 'n' Rollercoaster is mostly just fast, although you do experience a sinking feeling in your stomach at the beginning of the ride because it has a rocket propulsion kind of thing (I don't think it's as bad as Splash, and it's over quickly).

Ummmm... other new rides that are "drop" chicken friendly: Dinosaur, Kali River Rapids, and the Safari ride... Not sure about the Barnstormer or Primevil since I've never tried them.

Hope that helps!

Hi MJD,

I'm a little chicken about drops but I fight my fears and ride everything anyway. Splash Mountain looks alot scarier than it is. My first time I worried so about the "big drop" that I didn't notice the fun story through the rest of the ride. When it was all over I thought maybe there was another drop because this couldn't have been the long one you see as you walk to the ride, but it was.

Do it, you'll enjoy it. Don't forget to enjoy the rest of the ride. And Test Track fun but not scary at all.

Mission Space does not have a drop. You sit in a simulator, and you are spun in a "Gravitron"-type cylinder. You do not feel the actual spinning, but you do feel like you are actually in a space shuttle taking off!

I am exactly like you! PotC is one of my favorites, and I still get a little nervous right before the drop! I did try Dinosaur, and it is fast and noisy, and gives you a slight sensation at a few spots, of dropping, but it is just a rough "Jeep ride". Now Kali River rapids has a drop, but it is as tame (and fun!) as PotC. You'd be fine on that!
