DVDR Backup/Achieve Media | What do you trust?

What brands do you use and trust to burn your images to for backup/achieve purposes? My spindle of DVD-r are almost gone and I need to pick some up. My backup system currently is laptop > external HDD > DVDr. All files start on the laptop then get moved to the external and at that time they are also backed up to a dvdr.

This is the first time I am really thinking about the blank disc before I make a purchase. In the past I've always picked up the best bang for the buck. Now, I am more concerned about quality vs quantity.

Are the Archival Gold DVD-R's worth the extra cost, or is this just a marketing ploy?

I think it's less the brand than the manufacturer. I've gotten mixed results from almost every brand.

Right now, I'm using Verbatim 16X DVD-R.
