The DVD collection is built and kept by each
DVC on their own. The newer DVC resorts have smaller collections (Kidani for example had only about 10 pages of titles in the binder when it was new), the older ones have very large collections which seem to be limited only by the amount of drawer space they have to store all the disks themselves.
Selections range from rated G & PG, which are the bulk of the selection and appropriate for the family environment, to a few rated R. Plenty of non-Disney movies have been available at the resorts we've stayed in.
I've found many many titles including brand new releases in the books. I think these may be donated by members, as I can't envision DVC making the effort to purchase new releases in a timely manner. If this is the case I want to say "Thank You!" to those who've shared. Movies are a perfect way to entertain a child who's ingested pool water and not feeling their best and there's a limit to the amount of Disney programming I can take.
More info:
Rentals are free to DVC members staying on points. They will check your room card to be sure this is the case. But once checked even the kids can go down and take out movies on their own without a parent with them providing the movie they want has an appropriate rating.
Some resorts only allow one disk to be out for your room at a time, others have allowed us up to 3. Ask!
Rentals are to be returned by 11am the following morning. You can keep it longer, but they request that you sign it back out for each day you keep it. I know at Kidani they will call us if we forget to return ours the next morning. At VWL either they did not call or we returned them on time - 14 months back is too far to recall
