Hi there.

My DH, DD3 and I will be bringing my wonderful mum (53) to WDW in October (VB and BCV) for her first ever trip (and her first flight too!) This is a huge thank you trip for all her help and support since being blessed with Natasha (DD) and the 32 years before that too!!

We are Disney veterans and we love Dis. I have been printing certain threads for her to read. She is enjoying them very much.

So, how can you help? Please add replies for my mum. What can she expect, must-do's, hints and tips, advice. We really want this trip to be special and I know it will be........your contributions will be gratefully received. Thanks.

Your mother is a young woman (my age) and will enjoy just about everything she can do. I love all the parks, including the water parks.

But see if you can get an Illuminations cruise or at least get with someone who can get it . It's a great way to watch the show.

Rent her a boogie board at VB.

We took my parents and my in laws when our 2 boys were small. The best part for them was watching the little ones faces. Do the parades, lots of character meals etc. My dad talked about our son then 18 months telling one of the three pigs "no no" for the longest time. My parents were older but they enjoyed boats trains, watching the ducks, swimming- all of the extra stuff as much as the parks. They also had the best time with the kids in the fountains outside of journey to immagination. (I think this might be gone now but those kinds of fountains. Have a great time. We took a little slower pace but it was one of our favorite times.

My mom goes with us on our trips. She is a young widow and doesn't get to travel much. She really enjoys the wonderful meals they have at Disney World. Her favorite is The Cape May Cafe Clambake. Maybe have your mom take a look at the restaurants and pick a meal she'd really like to try!

How long are you planning to stay? For sure the Cirque is not to be missed! We saw it in 01 (our first trip) and will be seeing it again in June 05 (2 trips away).. our biggest mistake was doing the commando thing and not resting up before showtime. DD slept thru the entire performance! I know that had we more energy, we would have enjoyed the show more.

Remember, October can be quite warm still in Florida. And use sunblock, the sun is much more intense than in the UK.

Stroll, don't hurry from atraction to attraction, you'll see so many wonderful that other folks miss...take time to smell the roses.

And tell Mum to be sure and bring a couple of pairs of comfortable walking shoes, it is good to switch shoes daily. There is a lot of walking. Describe to your Mom all the Restaurant's around World Showcase and let her pick one...hopefully she won't chose Rose & Crown, after all, you have "British" food all the time :)

Above all, relax and enjoy your trip.

Is a spa something she would enjoy? Any of the spas on the property would be wonderful. I know my mom (52) would love a massage.

I noticed they have spa packages for girls 10-14 also. DD will be 10 this year, and I'd love to do a 3 generation girls trip sometime and hang out at the spa! :D

Frozenfingers, we will be at VB for 3 days, then at BCV for 11 days.

Again, thanks for the replies - I know Mum will enjoy reading your replies.:earsgirl:

I don't your mom will have trouble during anything.

I certainly don't.

however she may want some time alone - be sure of that before you plan every day.

make sure she gets to see and enjoy all that the BC has to offer - the garden tour comes to mind. So does Cape May Cafe for breakfast - love it!!! (of course I also love Goofy....)

she is probably a walker - right - well the Epcot resorts is lovely for the early morning walkers.....

My only advice is to try to avoid the temptation to "do everything" on your mum's first trip. (Love the way you guys use the word "mum" :) ).

As you know, there is so much to see and do, and you don't want to go into a fast paced touring mode. Pick out your favorite things in each park, and those that you know your mother would enjoy. Use the FastPass system and spend plenty of time just taking in the parks' details and nuances.

It sounds like a wonderful trip for you, and we wish you all the best in your planning and trip. :)

I am slightly older than your "mum", and I doubt there is anything she wont like! I don't know how long you plan to be at WDW, but I would plan a slow paced trip for her to take in ALL the details! I would also suggest one or two behind the scenes tours. If she likes gardening, there a couple of really good ones at Epcot. She also might like the Backstage Magic full day behind the scenes tour. I have to agree with the spa visit too, or maybe just a massage. At OKW, we love to go down to the hot tub at one of the smaller neighborhood pools for a nice relaxing soak late, just before bedtime.
