DVCers: Did you hear about the DDE change?

I don't know if this is posted somewhere. But the DDE is going to start adding 18% gratuity to all patrons at TS locations, not just larger parties.

What is the point of a tip? I thought it was for the patron to thank/acknowledge the server's excellent service or the opposite.

This was all over the restaurant board for awhile.

Apparently this was instituted as part of a compromise for the union to get them to accept Disney's insistence on removing the included gratuity as part of the DDP.

It seems the complaint was regarding DDE members tipping servers on the discounted amount, not the full bill amount as is customary.

If the service is lousy, I think the only remedy at this point is to ask to see a manager and have the gratuity amount reduced or eliminated.

On the other hand, DDE members don't identify themselves as such until they're ready to pay, so it shouldn't cause servers to deliberately use a different level of service for those parties (unless maybe they are a party of 6 or more, which in all circumstances would get the auto gratuity added)
