I think instead of financing 160 points at one time we are going to buy one small contract resale and go from there. If we buy say a 25 or 50 point contract can we then later do add-on contracts through Disney for small amounts? Financially I just think it makes more sense for us. Has anyone done this or know how it would work?

You can do that, but be aware that the smaller point contracts are going to cost more per point than the larger ones, and the closing costs will be the same, so be sure to do plenty of research before you make that decision.

When you add on from Disney, you will need to add on a minimum of 25 points at a time if you pay cash and a minimum of 50 points if you want to finance. Once you are a member, there are no closing costs from Disney. You only pay closing if you are a first time buyer.

One more thing you might want to consider. Be sure you look at the point charts for the resort you plan to buy in at. You will want to try to be at least close to the number of points you might use for a 4-5 night stay. If you are talking about OKW, that could mean a 50 point contract could be enough. If you are talking about some of the others....maybe not.

I did just that, We purchsed 26 OKW contract (it had banked points which was a bonus) than once we were in the system we bought 100 AKL points.
We did pay more for the OKW contract becuase it was smaller and I wanted to make sure we made it though FROR but it made sense to me to have more smaller contracts than one larger one. (for us anyways-maybe some people its different)
I am hoping to do a another small add on at BWV by the new year..

Good luck,

Kim

I purchased a 70 pt BCV resale 15 months ago.
I now have 380 pts! Be careful of addonitis.
Only the original contract was resale.
My largest contracts are 70 pts. The points, spread over 3 resorts, are
2-70, 1-60, 3-50, and 1-30.
I think smaller contracts are perfect for passing down to multiple children, or heaven forbid, if you need to sell. Small contracts are a snap to resell. Larger contracts can languish on the resale sites for months or even years.
I was able to get all my contracts with the same use year, and didn't have to wait for any, even BCV.

Good luck with your decision.

Deb

Thanks everyone I think this is what we will be doing. If we eventually own small amounts of points at three different resorts we can take a vacation each year with banking and borrowing. There will even be room for me and Dh to get away by ourselves here and there this way.
