DVC X RunDisney

Where do the races start? Do resorts have transportation to and from the start line?
Most if not all of the races start in the Epcot parking lot. And yes, runDisney provides bus transportation from resorts to the start line. They make it real easy, so you can be half asleep and still make it on time!

Gotcha. Thank you!

I have a bit of a WWYD for this run Disney crew…

My sister and I are running the Marathon weekend 10K and we currently have 2 rooms booked and can’t decide which to commit to lol help?

We have a LV room at BPK (so 2 proper queen beds) and a SV Duo studio at the new poly tower (1 bed 🫣). Neither of us particularly mind sharing a bed normally (as the youngest in our family, you accept your fate pretty young lol), but we’ve never done an activity like this where maybe some extra space and comfort might be necessary. Also, let’s be honest, everyone wants their own bed almost always lol

My sister would prefer the room at BPK for the 2 beds, of course, but I’m a bit torn. It’s 23pts more for this room than the duo, maybe not an insane amount but, hey sometimes I’m a point miser. I also love the idea of staying at the shiny new tower for a couple days. But I will add, we have a room on opening night in a premium view duo (see? I said we don’t necessarily mind sharing a bed) so technically, we’ll have already stayed there once.

Anyway, if you made this far into my rambling, what would you do? Is it worth the up charge to stay at the Grand for the 2 beds or pay less for newer rooms at PIT but less space?

Personally I would always want my own bed for a race weekend 🤷‍♀️ (except when sharing with my husband. Even then....lol). There are enough other stresses for the event with going to bed early and getting up at like 2am that I wouldn't want to add 'sharing a bed with someone that I don't always sleep next to' to the mix. But I guess it also depends on how long your trip is and how many nights you'd be sharing said bed. If just one, the night before the race, I think you could make it work. If you're talking a whole weekend or longer, I would say everyone is likely to be happier with their own beds for the duration. JMO.

This is what we kept coming back to but I’m an over thinker sometimes. This is the exact rational advice I needed lol thank you!

I have a few follow up questions. How long is the trip overall? Are you both running? And is it just the 10k? Who owns the points, and how's your overall point balance? These are all the things that would impact my decision. Oh, and will you have costumes that take up a lot of space?

True, true. We’re there 4 days. Both running. Definitely just the 10K, I could never😅. We share the points and we’re pretty chill about our point usage. As it’s our first time, keeping costumes very simple I think, so no, not a lot of space.

I hesitate weighing in with an opposite POV but here goes…if it was me, I would stick with Poly. If this was a marathon or even a half marathon, my answer may be different but worst case you don’t get the best night’s sleep - you can still pull off a 10k (I speak from experience 🤣) AND save the points plus…POLY!

Personally.... I'm a poly tower person for marathon weekend. To just have one monorail to contend with is all the nerves I need. I walk over to the TTC and it is just so easy with one monorail. Also, I'm not sure if this will be true or not, but if you are staying on points the long houses have a free laundry. I'm a weird one but I hate coming home with a suitcase of smelly stuff so I like to run it through the wash. I've never stayed at VGF though. Also I think the tower will have a mini fridge and not a cooler. Maybe I'm just a poly lover who knows :)

Have you stayed in this size room before? My husband and I did the tower studio at Riviera for Springtime Surprise and it was quite cramped. The bathroom was lovely (weirdly oversized for the room) and the bed was fine, but there wasn't much room for anything else. I personally wouldn't try to go for the duo/tower studios again unless I was just doing a park commando trip where the only thing I'd be doing in the room was sleeping. Again, JMO!

The monorail only provides race transportation for the half and full...so no matter where you're staying you'd have to take the bus (at least to get to the start).

Haha you might be overestimating my abilities, but I agree a 10K isn’t super intense no matter how mediocre I am. I can rally on little sleep, if it came to that. The only thing is my sister is the opposite. She needs all the sleep😅🤷🏼‍♀️

Good point about laundry, BPK has laundry in building too so that’s equal. If we were staying in the longhouses I probably wouldn’t question it but the tower is a bit far from the TTC, we’d likely take the bus in the morning and monorail back.

Nope our first time! I tried to change our reservation to a regular tower studio but they were not available the next day I called :/ we’re staying in one opening night just a few weeks before the race but that’s within the 30 day mark and won’t be able to change things at that point. Normally I’m with you. We do max 3 to a studio, usually just 2, so 2 in a duo will be interesting but the pros of the Poly have been beckoning me lol

I do think we should err on the side of the person who needs a bit more space. I’m good either way but if my sister will feel uncomfortable it seems selfish of me to force us into the tower just because it’s Poly. Maybe I’ll call MS and see if any availability opened up for a Poly studio those 3 nights. Unlikely but I could try.

Thanks for your input everyone!

Okay, DD sent me the link to the Marathon Weekend info! We’ll check into a BW view at BWV on Friday afternoon. So who’ll be running past us on Sunday morning? I’ll be on our balcony or on the Boardwalk depending on how close DD is!

Wow nice villa for marathon weekend! I’ll be running past you (*if all goes well)!! No costume for the marathon, I’m too nervous to mess with my tried and true training clothes. Good luck to your daughter :)

No more marathons for me. I will do two halfs a year to maintain legacy Dumbo and C2C.
Enjoy cheering from your balcony and good luck to your daughter ☺️

Any idea how hard it is to get a grand villa for marathon weekend?
I’m looking at 2026, own at VGF and AKL

AKV should be easier than VGF, especially if you want savanna view, because there are 6 at Jambo and 14 at Kidani (only 2 standard view GV both at Kidani). VGF has only 6 GV. You might also check the availability tables in the DVC Field Guide here: https://www.dvcfieldguide.com/availability-tables.

I wanted to add - take advantage of your ownership by booking at 11 months for sure!

Thank you so much!!! That field guide is especially helpful!
The situation looks promising….now to see how many points it will take!

LOL, yes, the points cost is the kicker! We needed to save up and to borrow because we needed almost 2 years of points for our GV at BWV for 2025 MW. Good luck!
