DVC worth it for non WDW trips?

If Disney raises the number of points it takes to book a non-DVC resort, is this increase in points proportional to the increase in cash it would cost to stay at the same resort at the same time?

From my first few calculations it seems that the increase in points is much greater than the increase in cash. So is the value of using DVC outside of the DVC resorts decreasing each year?

We have traded to the Marriott Newport Beach resort. We stayed for a week for about the same number of points as BWV. We now have traded to the Marriott on Hilton Head Island. We wanted a ocean view room. It too is about the same number of points. We went to Washington, DC and New York on points. This may not be the best use of them but we probably wouldn"t have gone any of these places if it weren't for DVC. We bought with the understanding we could trade to other places and that we have. It works for us. I guess if we find it cost too much to trade we will probably rent out our points and use the money for another place. I think many find this a better use of their points. We have never stayed at a WDW resort that wasn't DVD and used points. I don't think that is worth the extra points. Why would you want too!!! The other rooms are so small compared to the DVC resorts rooms. And wow those GV, they are really nice!!!!

Well, we are booking The Disney Collection (three days Poly Concierge) for next Jan/Feb. The cost for this will be 50 pts/night, and 90 pts/night for the weekend. I have figured my DVC to be worth about $5.55/pt. This would make one weekday night (Poly Concierge) about $278...NO TAX. I think this is a pretty good price. Of course, still not as good as a DVC Resort.

I think the same theory would apply, seeing as though my example is non DVC.

It's not generally worth it from a dollars only standpoint. Some have bought to use including this option and that is any members perogative. Some options though are a better value than others comparatively.
