As new DVC owners, we are anticipating our first stay at our home resort (Grand Floridian). Although we won't be going until next year, we are already super excited. We will be staying in a 2 bedroom, and I plan on cooking a fair amount of meals in the room.

Is there any cross contamination risks I should be aware of. At home, our kitchen is strictly gluten free and there is little thought of what might have touched what. I realize the toaster is not an option, unless I use a bread sleeve thing, but I am wondering what other things I might want to be aware of.

Thanks.

This is a good question that never been asked on here before. Most of them have pots and pans right not a Dvc owner or ever stayed on one sorry so that might be a risk. They do get cleaned but not sure if that help. You could call Dvc and ask they might be able to help you like have new ones in the room or extra cleaning or the appliances depending on room size.

When traveling if you are planning to cook, you could bring one small pan from home (or pick up an inexpensive one) if you are concerned about nonstick cooking pan having gluten contamination. Avoid wooden utensils in the kitchen and avoid a wooden cutting board, just stick to plastic, glass, metal.
:)

We don't have gluten allergies, but DD is allergic to nuts and peas.

When we arrive at our villa, I put everything that we'll use in the dishwasher and start it up. I don't bother with wine glasses, baking pans, etc that I know we won't use.

Then I use Clorox wipes to wipe down all of the counters, inside the fridge, and the dining table.

Once everything is clean, I unpack our groceries.

DD also doesn't use the toaster since there's no way for us to know what bread may have been in there before.

I also buy hand soap to have at the kitchen sink.

Are you overly sensitive to gluten? (i.e. have trouble eating out at all because of possible cross contamination?) If so, then the extra precations I would take would be to 1. Not use the toaster (obviously) 2. Wash all pots, pans, plates and cups and utensils you will be using 3. clear out the ice maker and start a new batch in case someone used their hands to get some 4. do a thorough wipe down of the counter tops.

I am not this sensitive so the only things I ever worry about is the toaster. We do not have a gluten free kitchen at home either.
