OK, I'm trying not to get too upset about the potential for Fay to ruin my vacation (leave Albany, NY at 6:30 Tuesday am). Called the airline, understand their policy. However, what is the DVC policy if we can't get there for the first night due to flight issues? Checked the site, couldn't find anything, they're closed now, I know someone (and sometwo, somethree...)
here will have the answer for me. Thanks!

Generally, it's handled on a case by case basis. The rules are as stated....but sometimes DVC bends them in extreme circumstances. Hopefully, this will not turn into a major storm. Best thing to do is as soon as you think you may not be getting there due to flight cancellations, call MS or if they are closed call the resort directly.

The "rule" would be that if you just don't show up you forfeit your points and lose the reservation. That is why it's extremely important to keep DVC/the resort advised of any storm related changes. Once the scope of the storm is known, they may work to return some or all of the points you didn't use.

The year that Florida had 4 hurricanes, I went down in between hurricane two and three--but we were delayed at home, waiting for hurricane two to clear the area before our plane could take off, we were given those points back, and we just used them to add a day at the end of our vacation, but then we had to get out before #3 hit, so we never did get that extra day!

The year the Eastern Seaboard went dark, we couldn't take off, even though we had power in the midwest. By Sunday we were still waiting to leave for Florida, even though we were supposed to return home on Monday. MS gave us all our points back without any trouble at all.

Generally, MS is understanding about things if your plane is delayed.:)

Ok, we are going with my BIL's family - and I am the lead on the reservation for check in Monday. So, what happens if we are delayed a day or so, but he is not, can he check in and at least get to start the vacation, even if we are not there.

The answer to that is yes. If his name is on the reservation, then he can check in. We've done that with friends before - all of us checking into a 2 BR on a couple trips, a Grand Villa on another, and the DL Hotel on another couple occasions. Just make sure that if he leaves a credit card temporarily, that you get yours on it and his removed when you get there.

Thanks for the info. This mornings 3-day projection looks like we'll be able to fly in OK, just have some rain the first few days.

If you have the DDP, whoever checks in first will also have to pay for the plan for everyone in full. Just in case, good to know.
