DVC waitlist. How does it really work?

Hi everyone. We are wait listed for a BWV studio in January. We've had wait lists come through before. How does it work in Disney's system. I'm sure there is a queue of som sort. Is there any way to see where you are in that queue? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

There is no way to see where you are on the waitlist. Rooms may show up available online which people are waitlisted. It's thought that wailists are matched a couple times a day. People often stalk the DVC online booking in hopes of snagging a recently canceled reservation which never makes it to the waitlist.

I don't think anyone knows for sure.

I've had 50-50 luck with it so far. Though, this year's waitlists are trending that toward 33% luck and 66% no go.

We recently found a day we had waitlisted online just by checking and got it that way.

I found that if I need a day added on at the beginning or end of a ressie (always related to cheap flights), those come through but a week at a time never has.

I've waitlisted three times. Once for a week at SSR in a two bedroom villa instead of the one bedroom I had booked. Did not get the waitlist. Second for three nights at BLT in a one bedroom lake view for marathon weekend. Did not get that. Third, one night at BWV in a studio for the Tower of Terror 10 miler this year. Got that one but waitlisted it about six and a half months out.

Thanks for the insight. Wouldn't it be great if there was some sort of counter letting you know where you are in the queue. I know...I am oversimplifying things but Disney can create anything...right!?

That might give you false hope. When the WL process is run, it goes down the list in order to see if a request can be filled in its entirety. For example, let's say you are at the top of the list for a studio at BWV, Standard View for Dec 1-7 and I'm well below you on the list waiting for the same room type for Dec 2-3 . Someone cancels Dec 1-4 and some time later the WL process is run. You don't get those nights because you need those nights plus three more. If no one above me on the list needs some subset of those nights to fill their request completely, I get them. You could sit at #1 on the list and never get your request filled while several others below you on the list are successful.

It worked for me for WDW marathon weekend coming up in 2014. My brother owns BLT and he wanted to give me BLT for friday and sat night before the 1/2 and the full since I am having lots of family stay with us at AKL and this would give me a 'retreat' to be able to rest / get ready for the races. Well, friday wasnt available, so we waitlisted it. Sure enough it came thru . Granted I was only looking for one night, but I did get it.

I just waitlisted 2 more nts after our CHristmas vakay....came through in about 4 days! I was shocked...but then again, it was only 2 days and not a whole week. First time I wait listed.

I also just had to waitlist Friday night of marathon weekend in January. I have a 1br at OKW for Tue to Friday and than again Saturday night leaving on Sunday. I am really hoping that Friday night comes through because I don't know what we will do if it doesn't. There is not a studio or 2 bdrm available either so it would really suck if we had to change resorts for 1 night. Keeping my fingers crossed!!

Good luck! I was surprised this actually came thru for me. Since it was Marathon weekend and BLT figured I was done for. This is just a studio so maybe some switched from studio to 1br or something. Have a great marathon weekend!

This seems ot be counter to what many here say but we have had great luck with our waitlists. Every one has come through and usually in only a week or so. The longest wait we had was our last waitlist for Aulani whcih was a full week in a Pool View Studio for this August which we placed exactly at the 7 mo window..
