DVC vs. Resale

Has anyone decided to go direct with DVC rather than resale? I am looking to buy 100 pts (add on) at SSR, October UY. I can get SSR for a lot cheaper via resale but the odds of finding my use year and the amount of points I am looking for make it tough. The resale points would cost me about $24/pt less than DVC. Two contacts match my criteria now but are 20 more points than we want/need and no points until 2010. The additional points would cost about the same as 100 via DVC but we would pay more in dues.

Any advice?

Like you, I kept looking for a small add-on contract on the resale market. I could never find something that met all my requirements regarding UY, # of points, price, and resort. I finally found a resale contract, but only after I increased the number of points from 75 or less to about 100 points. I am now awaiting ROFR on my offer. The big advantages of buying direct from Disney is that you can buy exactly what you want and have access to the points almost immediately. Sometimes those advantages outweigh the money you might save on a resale contract.

My advice to you is to contact one of the major resellers, such as the Timeshare Store (we are dealing with Scot at TSS) and get on their email list. Let them know what you are looking for and they can alert you when a contract hits the market that might interest you.

Good luck!

Thank you! I am on the e-mail list for the TSS. They have been great. I agree, with DVC, I am getting exactly what I want--exact points, UY, 09 points. The points are even sitting in my allocation already on the member website! I just see what the resales are going for and I hesitate. I think I will break even. The difference in the dues for a larger contract than I want (even as small as a 20pt difference) over the lifetime of the contact ends up being about the additional amount I would spend through DVC. Granted, I would have 20 more points, but at a cost.
