DVC upgrade?

I see all of these "I got a free upgrade!" threads and wonder: Do DVC members ever get free upgrades? Has anyone ever reserved for a studio and got bumbed to a 1 bedroom, etc? Or is this just a regular resort occurance? Just curious.

No, they seldom happen. If the room category you booked is unavailable because of maintenance problems at the last minute, they might move you to a different type room or a different resort. But for the most part, you get what you book.

But if you book a short stay with cash, there is a chance for a free upgrade. We had a studio booked for cash once for one night and then we were moving into a one bedroom on points for a week. When we arrived, they moved us to a one bedroom for the cash night and we didn't have to move for the rest of the trip.

Ok. I was curious because I have never seen anyone post about being upgraded. Doesn't matter to me because I love love love my trip plans anyway!

It almost never happens on a points stay and usually when it does, there is a reason for it. Timeshares are generally reluctant to upgrade guests for a number of reasons. They want you to buy the better option or more points, why do so if you routinely upgrade you. Plus if they upgrade one person and don't another or upgrade you one time and not another time, that creates issus as well.
