DVC Treatment At the BCV's

Stayed at BCV in October 2002 and January 2003 and had a good time eacht ime. I don't recall the CMs being anything but nice. I don't recall the "welcome homes" one way or the other, but that's not all that important to me, so I wouldn't miss it if it wasn't said. I just say thanks if it is said.

Loved the resort, loved the proximity to Epcot, didn't like the size of the rooms, but we are owners at OKW so we've been spoiled by their room size.

jmminarik,

I understand what you meant. Welcome Homes and warm fuzzies are not a BIG THING. There are probably lots of things more important. It's just the big cherry on top of a yummy banana split! Helps to foster pride of ownership and all that...

This is what I wrote about that "feeling" in my Oct 2002 trip report:

"BOTTOM LINES: (and this is only my personal opinion)

I love the Epcot resort area. I liked the BCV slightly better for décor, location, pool and relaxing atmosphere. But like I mentioned, I was always partial to the Beach Club. However, the rooms are a little bit smaller and the SAB pool is like a mile away. But BWV wins hands down (this trip) for making me feel like a DVC member. To my mind, BWV feels like a DVC resort with a hotel tacked on. The common pool area is intimate and many people you run into are fellow members and CM’s assume and treat you like a DVC member. The BCV feels like a hotel resort with the DVC villas tacked on. SAB is huge and is shared by 2 large resorts as well as BCV. Most people you run into are probably NOT fellow DVC members and CM’s usually assume you are a guest, not a member. This “feeling” makes a difference but it certainly won’t make or break my vacation."

KNWVIKING,

There has only been a common check-in for BWV and BWI during the three years that we've been visiting since becoming DVC members in early 2001. I cannot speak to the situation prior to that time.

The rightmost station at the front guest is designated "guest services" and are convenient for guests to make priority seatings, get admissions media if they have not already done so at check-in, and get another $20 bill changed into something smaller so you have tip money for the parking valet (I must end up doing this once or twice each trip; where do all those singles go?).

My daughter and new son-in-law stayed at BCV for their honeymoon last week. They were treated great. The front desk even sent up a special "honeymoon welcome" to the kids. They got a Yacht/Beach Club honeymoon pin, balloons, and an autographed Mickey/Minnie picture that said have a magical stay, hope you enjoy your honeymoon. Pretty neat, huh? Especially since their wedding cake topper was Mickey and Minnie!

My son-in-law was so excited. This was his first trip to Disneyworld. He was just like a kid. It was so funny, before the plane landed he looked at my daughter and said, we're almost there. Disney could do a commercial with him. He even wanted to move to Florida. My daughter said, well, we can always go back honey!

We have received Welcome Homes at all the DVC properties. That is nice I suppose but not important to us. What is MOST important is the condition of the room and how the cast members treat us as guests. Have a nice day.:D

I don't know about other members but I get all the "warm & fuzzies" I need just by being there. I guess I don't need anyone to remind me, or blow smoke you know where to make me Happy.
That's not the reason I go.

We had a great time 1st time at BCV, but being OKW owners, I really didn't think the CM's at BCV were as friendly as at OKW. Actually I thought the whole atmosphere at BCV was a little "snooty". I just think the people working there are just use to people staying there who have a lot of money. It isn't your everyday person who can afford to pay $329 + tax for a hotel room. The only 2 things this resort has going for it is convenience & Stormalong Bay. Otherwise, I'd be just as happy at OKW anyday! The above comments are just my opinions.

We just bought points and are in the period where we can change our minds. I personally keep jumping back and forth about whether or not we made the right decision though DH is thrilled. I don't care if we don't get a welcome home, but I am concerned about overall treatment and service. I like luxury hotels. I'm not a snob. I just love nice hotels and the properties seem wonderful, but how are you treated as a DVC member? Is the staff willing to be helpful? Is there the Disney magic? Or is everyone happier with cash paying guests. In other words, if you've joined the club, they've got your money pretty much so do they still care? Do they look at DVC members as the poor folk? That's my biggest fear. They don't have to fawn all over me, but I don't want to feel like a second class citizen. It's not small change one forks over to become a member. Maybe it's a money saving proposition in the long run, but I joined for a class act and not to be the "red headed step child" they're doing a favor for by letting us use our points instead of forking over the $300 + a night. Anyone have words of comfort or confirmation that our Disney vacations will continue to be magical because of or in spite of our new membership beyond whether or not we get a "Welcome Home?"

Please....do not worry. I have been to Disney a zillion times, and I have been treated the best as a DVC Member.

Uhm...my original question was if other found the BCV to be less 'Welcome Home'ish than at dedicated DVC resorts...and this being the internet it has taken a life of its own.

I'll explicitly state for those who need it stated this way... We were treated as nicely as at any other Disney property...resort, park, whatever...just none of the recognition that we're DVC members that you kinda get used to at a resort that's primarily a DVC resort ...and as corny as it is, it is also one of the 'perks' that Disney gives us that can't be taken away as a cost cutting measure.

I'm not angry, annoy, skeeved, disappointed or otherwise upset...just curious to see if others had experienced being treated more as a hotel guest than as a DVCer.
