Trying to understand the new perk for us - the Travel Insurance that covers you for a year - from what I understand, it only covers your points?

I believe is covers all travel expenses for a trip that is made with your points for this use year

it covers fights and stuff but the big downfall it only pays what your annual dues are per point that you lose. this is very low you cannot buy points this cheap anywhere. dvc charges 15.00 plus tax.

Wow. That seems like it wouldn't be worth it. There must be something else to it. I'll have to do some research on it. Will report back if I learn anything worth sharing.

When I called yesterday to book my December trip, the MS CM asked if I wanted the travel insurance, and I laughed at her! They are REALLY pushing it. She went on to say how necessary it was. I told her I had gotten along 14 years with 2-3 trips a year without it, and if I needed to cancel a trip and lose points, so be it. It's a happenstance. I think they might be trying to insure that they get the dues for trips that get cancelled last minute.

When I just called and asked about it, they told me it only covered your annual dues and not your points, so you would lose all of your points anyway! I dont see the point in this? :confused3 I was asking because I'm traveling from NY and with all the snow we've been getting if our flights got delayed/cancelled whatever I wanted to know if i'd be covered! Nope! oh well!
does anyone have any thoughts on why this would be a good idea?

Insurance by it's very nature makes huge profits for the insurer, not the insured. If it was a great deal, it wouldn't be offered.

Believe it covers flights and provides some type of medical coverage. If so, I don't think it's all that bad of a deal for those who make multiple trips in a year.

Depends on what situations it covers, I guess. For example, what if it covers when a child gets sick or if a loved one gets sick that isn't going, but you have to cancel the trip to take care of them? Think about it - your flights and dues are covered. Not perfect, but much better than losing everything. Plus, yo may be able to rent the reservation or get some use out of the points from the canceled trip anyway.

Like Diane, we self-insure and have been very lucky. But I will be asking about the fine print. Depending on what situations are covered, $79/yr could be a bargain & we will consider it.

Can't help but wonder if this product means MS will be less willing to spread pixie dust when members call with a sad situation.

Today, I just booked a 1 bedroom at GCV today for my trip in August. I was offered the insurance and from what I understand, if I canceled the trip right before I arrived for whatever reason, I would get money back in relation to the value of my points I would lose. You don't get the points back and to me, it doesn't seem worth it. Needless to say, I declined the offer.

Interesting thought; I wonder if too many people have been getting exceptions and they started cracking down but wanted a "did you get insurance" way out? I've read more stories recently about people ebing dusted...
