I just got a flyer in the mail for a special DVC (free!) tour they are having on OCtober 21 - I guess everyone who is booked at DVC resorts during that time will get one. It is a 3 hour tour with a re-dedication of the Roger E Broggie steam engine and a visit to the roundhouse and an "exclusive" presentation in the WD Story Theater on Main st. featuring Roger Broggie Jr. and Michael Broggie. My son is a train freak and is too young for their regular train tour - so this will be great! I've been a member for only 1.5 years - but have never seen a special tour like this offered. It is free - and you have to be there at 7:45am - and the reservation operator didn't know about it when I called today - but she figured it out and I got a conf. number. Now something else to look forward to in October!

That sounds really cool. Wish I was there at that time, I'd join you! Good luck to you and the little "engineer".

That's Great! I wish I could be there. Please post a report when you are able.

Thanks for the notice!! :)

I'm going to be there then, who do I have to call to get this reservation #, or can I just show up at the main gate?

I called the regular tour number (407-939-8687) but they said I needed to bring the invitation with me. I would guess you'll get one in the mail soon. I had to give them my DVC number and check in dates. It says the reservation deadline is October 3.

We have been booked for the "Magic Behind Our Steam Trains" on 10-20-2003 for abour 2 months! At $34.00 per person if the free version is offered to us (we're at BCV that week), I may cancel our paid tour.

Altough the free tour might be mobbed:eek:

Decissions, decissions, whats a DVCer to do:confused:

Thanks for the info!
There is 6 of us, so we could save $204.00 :earseek:

We got the flyer too and we will be taking the tour!!! We have 2 kids (5 and 2) and hopefully they will provide enough stuff for the kids to be entertained.

DH is taking the Behind the Magic tour right before New Year and it is a 7 hour tour with a min. age of 16. So since this tour has no min. age requirement, hopefully it is good for all ages.

cool - I love trains, wish I was there.

We did the Steam Trains tour back when it first opened. It was great! We got to watch one train being steamed up, got aboard to bring it out to the main line, took a trip around the loop, and generally had a blast. Then we went back to the barn once the park opened. The tour started at 0730 and didn't end until about 11. It was really strange, sitting outside the turnstiles at 7am in the dark, with nobody about.

The invitation sounds like a very slimmed-down and crowded version, so IMHO you should keep your paid ressies. Wish I was going to be there all the same!

Thanks Peter.
After sleeping on it, my thoughts are the same as yours.
How many folks were included in your tour?
Do you get to ride up in the engine with the crew?
Thanks for any info.

I got my invitation yesterday so I'll be there on the 21st! :Pinkbounc I can't wait, it should be lots of fun. And they did say that space will be limited so hopefully it won't be too terrible. Ah the joy of being a local DVCer. :smooth:

IIRC, there were about a dozen total people. They have set a fairly low limit on the number per group.

We didn't get to ride in the engine, but we did get to sit in the cab of one of the engines that was not steamed up. I'm sure it would be a liability nightmare to let "civilians" in the cab of a steamed-up loco! We were kept close to the group while in the barn, for the same reason.

While we rode around we were in the endmost coach. I believe our host said it was because of the noise (since he was doing his talk), not any operational reason.

We will be there that week, but alas no invitation has come to us.
:( My DS would love it. He always has to carry around one of his Thomas trains. I wonder if only DVCers that have been around for a while are getting this invite. We have only been members since last sept.
