I’m glad I found this. We are booked for 2 nights at Poly in December and our third night waitlist just matched. I’ve heard of merging but didn’t know how it worked.
We had our waitlist come through recently for the first day of our stay. I was actually wondering what happens if we didn't merge - would we be kept in the same room?
I was thinking if we could add the dining plan for the first night to get the cups and our arrival day character meal with the DP that would be great. We have a full kitchen so dining plan not worth it at all for rest of stay but it would be worth it for the one day. Not if we have to pack up and move though. That would be a pain.
If you are within 10 days of check in they will do it immediately if you call in / chat with the request.Adding onto this question, if my trip is in two days and I need to merge the rooms, is it still possible? Would it help if I talk to the front desk at check-in?
I know this is an old thread, but I was on the phone renewing my AP, and the ops CM was able to merge a reservation for me immediately after. Super convenient, very fast -- figured I'd share in case anyone is able to time that together on a call in the future.
Thanks!
I used chat last week to merge three reservations to one. The chat agent said he sent an email and it would be merged withing 7 days. I got an emails that same evening showing that it had been completed. It used to always happen immediately when you called or used chat. Then, they changed the process for merging and they starting saying that it would take 7 to 10 days.
We do this all the time. They will tell you it might take 7 to 10 days but lately it’s been 24 to 48 hours!!
And don’t get nervous if you see a cancellation email first. It happens when the merge is in process and the new one comes minutes later!!
I had a merging experience recently where the confirmation email never came, but I could see the merged reservation on the dashboard. Have other had that happen? After waiting for a few hours I think I triggered the email confirmation by "modifying" the reservation without making any changes.
One other thing I noticed with the following situation:
- original reservation made at 11 months
- waitlist for 1 extra night (at beginning of stay) made at 7+ months with same home resort points (designated via borrow)
- waitlist cleared at less than 7 months
- asked MS to merge
- they canceled the original (longer) reservation and merged with the 1 night reservation (same confirmation number as cleared waitlist)
- this now created a situation where the contracts are not locked (presumably since that second reservation was confirmed at less than 7 months)
Is this normal?
Since when does MS merge a room without me calling? I just had a wait-list come through and I did not say anything about merging the room but they did anyway..
Terrific!I had a waitlist come through today, I did chat today, and they actually merged the reservation today! That was fast!
It's part of the new Terms and Conditions. Long thread about it. https://www.disboards.com/threads/dvc-t-c-personal-use-only-thread-to-discuss.3968373/Terrific!
I was kind of surprised when I did the chat today to merge reservations, they asked me the question about the reservation being for "personal use".
call or send email it is done fairly quicklyI have a waitlist that came through and it is a third day at BWV, but its a separate booking from the first two days, should i call in to have it merged or something?
I cant imagine id have to move, its the same room type, I just don’t want any confusion, etc.
I got that on Thursday when I used chat to request a merge after a waitlisted night came through. My merge was done on Friday as well which surprised me as it took a week the last time I needed a merge.Terrific!

When I’m not sure I want a merge (still solidifying travel plans) I will put myself as lead guest on one reservation, and my co-owner spouse who will very likely be there too on the other. Then later we can match lead guests and merge if we decide we want to!There have been reports over the past few years of MS doing it. Never had it happen though.
But it’s why I keep my waitlist name as only the lead guest and have the other one with multiple names.
It should prevent them from merging because guests don’t match and then I can always ask for merging later.
It's two different memberships, so they can't do anything about it, but they said I may "get lucky".call or send email it is done fairly quickly
