DVC temporary policy rooms now between 4pm and 6pm?

I had great luck at the RIV this past XMAS. We were in a 1 BDRM for 2 nights, and then switched to a 2 BDRM for 2 more nights, on the day of the switch, our room was ready @ 7am! They even called us the night before to let us know we could contact bell services to bring out stuff for us. It was so early and I have 2 sons who can help carry stuff so we just brought our own stuff over to our much larger room!

Wow. Can I have some of that pixie dust?

It is a frustrating scenario but I agree with others. Just because it's been 2 years doesn't mean you can just say "well, it's been too long, there shouldn't be a staffing issue anymore!"... yeah, there still is. I feel Disney, like most companies, is just trying to do their best. For all the times you got your room before the stated 4pm time, yes, there will be occasions where it's late. And while it is somewhat annoying, at the end of the day, you can drop your luggage off and proceed with your day for the most part.

I just try to be understanding because I realize in many industries it's incredibly hard to find good workers right now, and just saying "they should hire more people"... it isn't that simple unfortunately.

One of the first thing I do when moving into a timeshare is to unplug the phone. I started doing that to avoid the invitation to "owner updates", etc that the other timeshare companies "offer" :sad2: .

Disney has an answer for that. Haven't you heard? We are all getting Alexa's programmed with Mickey's voice. They won't use the phone anymore - they will just have Alexa wake you up at 6am on check out day "Good Morning! It's check out day. It's time to get up and GET OUT". :rotfl2:

I’ve had the constant knocking on the door starting at 8 am even when I tell them I’m going to be in the room several more hours.

I wish Disney would include online check out so that we could let them know when we’ve left the room. And also a space to note any maintenance issues that need to be addressed in the room.
We often call housekeeping when we are leaving the room with our luggage, etc. Another option is to tell a housekeeper we come across in the hallway that we're "moving on". I'm sure they appreciate the heads-up.

I haven't done many stays (I visit less often and stay for longer each time than most), but my rooms during split stays have been mostly ready by 2pm. Only once I got it just before 4pm. So all in all very good. However problems happen and it's impossible to guarantee that all rooms will be ready in time every time. Maintenance, CM being sick or other emergencies might cause delays.
What I don't like is that there is no consistency with how problems are dealt with. I've read anything from a $200 gift card or the dining plan being gifted for length of stay to not even an apology. And what would be even worst is if people would start to be very vocal with the front desk CMs because they know that to get some compensation they have to complain rather than being handled with a standard process. Neither us or above all the CMs deserve that.

I did hear that Hey Disney Alexa devices were going to being put in Disney rooms starting in 2022. The good news is that those can also be unplugged. :-)

FWIW, I’m skeptical that calling housekeeping has any positive effect. Disney has never encouraged guests to do that, nor implemented any technology solution (interactive TV like other hotel chains, MDE app, etc.) I doubt they have any system in place to pass that information down to front line cleaning staff.

But we do also mention to CMs we pass in the hallways.

By 11am, all rooms should be vacated. The biggest challenges come from about 8-10am when staff is ready to work but sometimes struggling to find rooms that have been emptied.

We bring post-it-notes and leave a message on our check out day what time we are leaving. Also if we are napping in the room we we leave a message on the door not to be disturbed.

In that case, are we allowed to bring hammers into our rooms? :-)

See, this is how it all starts - the escalation.

If we bring hammers, Disney will probably counter with spring loaded beds that forcibly eject you at 6am. Either that or electrify themselves. :D

Stop me before I give them any more ideas. LOL.

Trip report, Disney, 2024. 7 am, checkout day. I hear a knock on my door. Before I can answer it, it’s unlocked and swings open into my room. Four housekeepers in black leather scoop me up and stuff me in a laundry cart. The last thing I see is a mop handle coming at me before I black out. As I’m wheeled away I can hear my in room Disney Alexa device thanking me for being considerate and checking out early. When I wake up, I’m on the monorail to the TTC where my car has been towed because I didn’t pay for extended checkout day parking at the special DVC owner price of 59.99 a night. At least they packed up all my clothes this time, (except for my cold food in the fridge because Disney had to stop doing that in 2020 due to labor shortages). My phone beeps and I notice a survey invitation for my stay from Emperor Chapek. I think about filling it out, and then I remember my time spent in the Cinderella castle dungeon the last time I complained that my beverage cooler only cooled to 72 degrees, and I click ignore.

Over the years I have had at least a half dozen check-in's that were well beyond just a few minutes to way more than a 1/2 hour past 4pm. I've also benefitted numerous times of actually being able to get in a room fairly early which to me is always welcome.
I hate online check-in because the choices offered for requests do not cover my choices such as no handicap accessible room and upper floors so I rarely use it.
I also once had major issues with the mold & mildew in a room @ BWV that took several days and multiple hours of lost park time to be somewhat rectified with absolutely no compensation, fp or anything more than a grudging apology from hotel management. The only time I have ever received any type of compensation for a sub-par experience was when PVV credited us the cash equivalent amount of a one night stay when we had to vacate the building in the middle of the night due to a fire alarm evacuation.
I'm with those who think that those with split stays should have room assignments expedited when switching rooms and/or resorts. For me there's nothing worse than having to rush to get out of one, arrange to have luggage moved, checking in to the next and then not being given a room until well after 5pm.
And don't get me started on the housekeeping knocking on the door early on check out day and the multiple phone call hang ups on check out day starting super early.

Nobody should have to get a room after 5pm. However, I don’t see why split stays should receive any preferential treatment. That’s a choice. There’s a very easy way to avoid the hassles of having to pack & move.

It's really not by choice when you have to try to piece together a stay because you can't get it all in one place or one room type for the number of days you want. The only other option is not going at all.

Or booking earlier. Or change to different dates. Or book a larger room.
