DVC Survey - New Resorts

While a Vegas location would be nice, my concern is is that is would be family resort (no casino or adult entertainment). While this is certainly fine for most locations, Vegas already tried the familiy friendly vacation spot approach, and failed, miserably. Plus with historically inexpensive rooms (and we may see those again if travel drops) I wouldn;t use points when I can get a room with daily housekeeping in a major casino hotel for $40 or $50. During the last travel drop after 9-11, I got 3 nights free and one night at $19 at Palace Station. Would you use points if room prices drop elsewhere?

I wouldn't mind using points occasionally in Mexico at a well kept DVC resort, if air fare is reasonable enough. I doubt I'd points at any new DVC resort, as we really have enough to meet our needs, assuming the point charts for new resorts remain inline with current charts.

I love Vegas. Don't kick me off the board for saying this - but I go to Vegas more than Disney. But I have no interest in a Vegas DVC. I just don't see how Disney can compete.

Today I can stay in much nicer accommodations (or much cheaper accommodations) in Vegas than I can DVC. Why would I use my expensive points to stay in the best-value hotel city in the world? And where would Disney build the DVC. The best locations are taken?

DVC does great in the Disney-resort world because it's only competition is the really-expensive Disney CRO. I honestly don't see DVC succeeding in any competitive vacation marketplace *cough*Hawaii*cough*.

Not sure I would use any of those locations. Being in the Southeast where I can take advantage of a majority of the current locations is part of what appealed to us with DVC. With current travel prices escalating these locations would probably appeal to those out west to give them more options. I agree with one PP who said something about the Colorado Rockies area. That might pique our interest enough to travel to sometime in the future. I also agree with a PP who said Disney should stick with what they do best ..... Disney. It would be hard to probably find the property to add more DVC around DL, but I can also see us taking a return trip out there to do DL again (love the Matterhorn and the Indy ride). Now all I have to do is figure out what we did with those darn non-expiry passes we got when we were there in the 1980's.....:confused3

Survey should have taken this approach:

Which non-DVC resort would you like to see include DVC accomodations?

A) Grand Floridian
B) Contemporary Resort ( ;) )
C) Polynesian Resort
D) Yacht Club Resort
E) Disneyland Resort Paris
F) Newport Bay Club (DLRP)
G) DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta
F) Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel

I vote "C" several thousand times!!!

None of the 3 listed destinations in the OP do anything for me--bought DVC for Disney @ WDW.

I agree with your list:thumbsup2

Just a note on the survey it described the Vegas location as 30 miles from the strip, with transportation provided to the strip. It is mainly a vacation destination for members who wanted a "desert" type vacation.

I didn't get the DVC survey, but did get an AP one, where they asked how interested I would be in a Hawaii or Caribbean vacation. As for the choices mentioned on the other survey, I would love to see DVC expand, but wouldn't be interested in any of those locations, especially Vegas.

I agree with those who would like to see more DVC resorts at all of the parks, including Tokyo and Paris.

I would vote no to all 3 options. Particularly Vegas (yuck)!

However, since there is a Disney presence in Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong and New York (Disney on Broadway), I would love to see DVC resorts in all of these destinations!

I agree with you, although I think they will do OK with Hawaii due to those on the West Coast and the Far East who visit HI on a regular basis. We'll have to see how much jet fuel/airfare prices impacts tourism, though. That could make HI a dud.

I don't care if Disney adds resorts in those places (Vegas, Tahoe & Cabos), but I would not be among the buyers. Probably wouldn't even want to use points for them - there are lots of good choices already in those markets for the times we might like to visit.

If the survey didn't specifically ask if you would buy there, I think Disney is going to get some very misleading information!

I got the survey. Three locations (Cabo, Vegas, and one other I don't remember) did specifically ask if I would purchase there. The others did not ask the question, just if I would maybe vacation there in the future. So I took it to mean that the ones they specifically asked about are serious considerations at this time, while they are only "thinking" about the others for future expansion. I wouldn't consider any of them as a "done deal" for now, given current travel costs.

If I go to Vegas I stay on or near the strip. Now..Tahoe..on the Nevada side..would be dandy. Mexico is still a scary place for me unless it's all inclusive. A Disney resort with eating options on site at reasonable prices would be very appealing

I diidn;t recieve the survey but I would say no to buying any of them. I think they could use the resources much better to expand there offerings in wdw and othe disney owned properties. Air fare is going to be high for a long time and I doubt most people will be using far away places all that often. I think when they expand they should stay with what they know but do we really think they care what we want lol

30 miles from the strip? Not interested at all!

Where would they be putting this resort? In Boulder City perhaps. It's about that distance away and it a family friendly kind of town in that there are no casinos allowed there (I forget the reason why). If it's 30 miles to the south near the stateline with California, that 30 mile drive could take an hour (or 2 hours) on a busy Friday night. I'll pass.

I have no interest in any of the three listed. I'm with those who would be more interested in DVC at Disney Parks around the world. I'm not even that interested in the new one in Hawaii. With the airfares going way up I can't even get a decent fare to Orlando anymore never mind having to pay to check luggage.

I would certainly not buy into any of them but I would visit. Mexico would be interesting though. You never know what you're walking into when you book a trip there. Their 4 star hotels are often nothing more than a Holiday Inn Express. I don't think it's a solid business move since DVC seems to be spreading itself a bit thin these days but it they do build it, we will come.

I do understand folks not interested in purchasing at other locations, but I am surprised at some of you reacting so negatively. You don't want other vacation options? I took a tour recently at World Mark. They are very similar to DVC in that they sell points. The BIG difference is that they have over 60 locations you can use your points. I know you all love DW, but why fight other locations? Doesn't cost you anything! Think of the options. Think of the possibilities! :thumbsup2

But also remember that they have to sell memberships at those resorts. And the market, in some of those locations, like Vegas, may simply not be there. If there is a repeat of VB, with an offsite resort not selling, they may well cancel previously planned resorts that folks would like, like they did after VB. Remember, Newport Beach was announced, then the property sold to Marriot. New York suddenly evaporated, and they waited 15 years for Hawaii.

I'm not a DVC member, but I am a Pacific Northwesterner who loves Disney parks and has always had an interest in possibly purchasing DVC.

I just don't get it though. They've barely even dipped their toes into developing DVC at Disneyland with their itty-bitty Grand Californian villas addition, and now their asking about Vegas, Mexico, and Lake Tahoe?

I'd be interested in another DVC resort at Disneyland.....or at a close by beach area so we could have both a Disneyland and beach vacation in one......or a DVC resort in the San Diego area (which is also a great family vacation spot).

Of course I'd be interested in any of those locations (Vegas, Mexico, Lake Tahoe) if they built some themeparks there along with the DVC resorts.;)

What you say is true...but those are business decisions. Doesn't affect directly those of us already in "the club". If DVC builds and it doesn't sell, then Disney loses.

Now, my view point...Disney learned a lot from VB and HHI. I also think they have seen the Timeshare market sky rocket, and don't want to be left out. Also, using Hawaii as the example future model, they will build a combination hotel resort/DVC at these future locations.
