wouldn't a mug be better?

Although I've thought about it and I don't think the mugs are ever coming back to the studios - someone made a good point about the lack of commercial dishwashers at DVC resorts.

I always thought a commercial grade dishwasher had to heat to a certain temp to sanitize the dishes. I do not think the DVC are commercial grade just a normal dishwasher as you would find in any home. Though I may be wrong I have not stayed yet.

I have not gotten to even stay in our "home away from home" as we just purchased last August but I do distinctly remember the guide pointing out the dishes in the studio portion during our tour.

I will also be expressing my concern to MS over this issue.

DD has allergies so we will be using the studio for some cooking for breakfast. I will still need to bring her own toaster. But I am very disappointed I will now have to pack soap and mugs. If they are going to have the microwave they should have dishes that are appropriate to use in it.

Do you think I could get DH to agree that I cannot wash dishes in the sink at home. According to Disney thats not what it's for.

Yes, they are at least at the Polynesian and GF.

The cabins used to have real dishes. Of course, my last experience was 21 years ago. But they have full kitchens so I bet they still do.

In the '80's there was a diswasher in the Ft. Wilderness cabins that you rented. As someone before here said, Chuck maybe, a small under cabinet dishwasher would be a welcome addition to the studio if that's what it takes!

To me this sounds like Disney’s misguided attempt to fix the number dissatisfier: Mousekeeping

They must get countless complaints about the shoddy work by mousekeeping and the late checkin time for DVC. Timeshares with kitchen facilities just take longer to clean.

So…. some idiot at DVC came up with the idea of eliminating mugs. It should speed up the room turn over, right? And, hey, the more we can discourage eating and drinking in the room the faster the clean up. Brilliant! Give that man a raise!

If you’re only looking out how to speed up and streamline the room turnover process this is a good thing. However, DVC neglected to consider the members use patterns, the environment, branding, customer loyalty... Very short sighted.

I hate that I will now have to pack mugs and dishwasher detergent on top of sugar and a plate. Such a small thing, but it hit a nerve with me.

I told my DH about the new policy. He shrugged and said, "just call downstairs for mugs". I then told him that members have done just that and were told, "they're not allowed glassware."

His jaw dropped.


Really, what are they thinking? It one thing to switch to paper if the glassware truly isnt used by majority (which I doubt), but then to flatly deny a request for glasses is just bad service.

Going back to the people with a child who has a sippy cup, or just sticky hands from anything, cereal eaten at the table. Water and a paper towel, isn't going to make it as clean as water with the dishwashing liquid. We could be inviting ants, other bugs to join us at the table after just a quick wipe. Maybe you could do the job with just plain water, but I've always used a soapy cloth.

I don't think that running a dishwasher program for a few mugs and glasses is kind to the environment.

Surely, once DVC have provided clean items in the studios, their responsibility ends and it's up to the guest how clean (or otherwise) they keep it from then on.

A dishwasher in a studio is not the answer IMHO

I intend to ask for mugs when we are there in June. I am bringing a copy of our purchase agreement to show the manager, if they say no mugs.

You will not find it in your purchase agreement .. Itis clearly outlined in the planner that Studios do not have it and that 1-2 bdr and Grand villas.

Actualy your Purchase Agreement say the following Subject to change with out notice..

And yes we all signed it.

I'm going to hit them where it hurts the wallet....

I am going to WDW next month.....guess who will spend the good part of a day or 2 stalking the "dvc kiosks"....whenever someone walks over with interest.....I will nicely ask the salesperson if he told these nice people that
they are "misrepresenting" their "deluxe" accomodations.

I then will ask possible customer if they "ever" had a styrofoam cup in any
"deluxe" accomodation

A dishwasher in a studio is not the answer IMHO

You can get drawer style dishwashers that are VERY eco-friendly, with low water and power usage. They'd actually probably use LESS water than simply washing all the mugs and glasses by hand, actually....depending, of course, on how concious you are of your water use and how efficient you are at hand washing.

I'd peg "mugs and glasses" as equipment. I certainly don't equate "polystyrene" cups to being of equal or better quality to glassware and ceramic mugs.

I think that's a pretty good point, IMHO,and pretty good evidence of just what's in our Purchase Agreements.. So we'll have to agree to disagree on this one if you feel otherwise.

Which is exactly what we've all been doing.

That being said:

"Subject to change without notice" within the parameters of

"substitutions of material of equal or better quality"

Again, if you choose to interpret the agreement otherwise, we'll have to agree to disagree on this. I think the PA needs to be interpreted as a whole, not just in small bites and parts.
