DVC sneak preview for Soarin'?

Halle I HATE roller coasters and am not a thrill ride person at all. But I LOVED Soarin' when I visited DCA in 2002. You are in a bench-like seat that juts out over a huge movie screen below you. You feel like you're flying as you look down at the scenery below, I didn't think it was scary at all. If you have experienced the Back to the Future ride at Universal this is sort of similar.

Can't wait for Soarin to open. I miss it by a couple of weeks this next trip, I am going the end of April. Unless I luck out and there are DVC or AP previews during my visit I'll have to wait until my October trip. I am jealous of all of you who will get to experience it sooner! :flower:

In the past, when they do DVC previews, is it for a week at a time or a day or what?

Does anyone have an answer to this?

The only DVC preview offered to date was Stitch. If memory serves, the preview period was a Fri - Sun a week or two before the official opening.

Stitch was open pretty regularly both before and after the preview, but for the designated weekend riders were limited to DVC and AP holders (it was a dual preview.)

That's what it should've been from the start.

We went to Disneyland last spring and my DP and I loved Soarin'. It is now one of my top 5 rides out of all of Disney attractions. I am so happy it is coming to WDW.

I CAN NOT go on roller coasters or motion simulator rides. They make me very, very :crazy2:. So I was really nervous to go on Soarin'. I read all I could find on it, asked people coming off the ride and finally just decided to give it a try.

When it first started I honestly had a little vertigo. Then within a few minutes I was fine. Long story short, we went on it twice a day every, day we were there. On our last day we went on it 3 times. I never had another problem. I just can't tell you how much fun it is.

There seems to be a weird "cult" feel to the people who have fallen in love with it. When I talk to people about it they think I'm crazy. They say that it is just a ride. But to me, that is like saying Cirque du Soleil is just a circus. Trust me; you will know what I mean when you finally get a chance to ride Soarin'.

I totally agree, I hate anything with a lot of motion, makes me really sick. I was really, really nervous to try Soarin, but I really wanted to give it a shot. I waited in line, all by myself, and got talking to a couple waiting in line ahaead of me, they were a really sweet couple in their 60's. They said they ride it once a week and if I was nervous I could sit with them. They were the sweetest couple ever. I sat with them, and the husband was so nice, he kept checking with me to make sure I was ok, and I ended up loving it.
I do recommend it to everyone.
I am ready for Soarin' over Florida!!! That would be such a great idea!! :sunny:

Just chiming in here...Soarin' is fantastic. This and the Indiana Jones ride were the two best reasons to visit DL / CA. Both were well worth the 2+ hours I waited to get on.
May I ask what time of year did you go that had 2 hour waits?

I absolutely adore this ride and cannot wait for my June trip to experience it in Florida!!

YES! AND, you will ride over and over again!

I can't believe all the positive feedback on this ride!! I just can't wait and hope I can ride it in April.

For those that have tried it in Ca., do they have a store right after the ride and how is the merchandise?

I can't believe you'd even ask that question. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Seriously, though, they are absolutely planning a store. 'Food Rocks' at The Land was eliminated specifically to make room for the ride queue and post-show merchandise.

Does anyone know what the height requirement is for this ride at DL? I'm hoping we won't have to babyswap when we are there in May. It sounds like so much fun!!!!

TIA

I read, I think on the rumer board, that when Epcot has it's anniv. celebration they will change the film from California to images from all the countries in World Showcase. That would be cool. :cool1:
I read this too in the '05 Unofficial Guide.

Really?? Now that's one I hadn't heard. That would be really cool!

I've heard that rumor, too, but won't hold my breath until there is actually film in the can. The project could end up a victim of cost overruns elsewhere.

One of the driving thoughts behind the updated film is that folks may be confused or disappointed by a California-specific journey in a Florida-based attraction. If that doesn't really happen, they could just take a "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" approach.

Okay, I read that the AP sneak peak will be April 15th - 17th. Of course I am going to be there April 22nd - May 1st and the official opening day is May 5th. So I will be in between the Sneak Peak and the opening. Any chance they will let people ride it in between the two?

Here's a DIS link for the height requirements at Disneyland:
http://www.wdwinfo.com/disneyland/height.htm

And here's what the link had to say about Soarin':
Soarin’ Over California Minimum Height – 40”/102cm

And the official site says the same thing.

HTH! :cool1: :goodvibes

MMMM, I am arriving the afternoon of 4/17, may have to change what I planned on doing on the 1st night!
