I just returned from a trip to DLR and spoke with a couple of DVC people out there.

They both indicated that there are talks about a DVC resort at Disneyland Resort, but that's years away. They wouldn't actually "tell" me where the next DVC resort would be built, but from the hints they gave...well, can you say "aloha"?

I was also told that all the WDW deluxe resorts will eventually have a DVC associated with them, but who knows if and when that will actually happen.

This would make sense to me from the posts I've read here...so many folks wanting to trade out to go to Hawai'i...including our family!

Thanks for the sharing - If the "aloha" rumor is true, many DVC members will be very happy, LOL! Maybe that is what is behind the "Coming Soon" billboard near Fairfiled's Bonnet Creek Resort.

Best wishes -

As much as I want a DLR DVC, Hawaii would definitely be cool. I could really see doing that - what is the "off season" in Hawaii? IS there an off season in Hawaii? LOL.

not really.

well since I hate to fly - I can't see going to Hawaiil......

I have to wait until I have retired - then I might flight over - or take a boat..... :goodvibes

With the off site DVC resorts not doing the business on site DVC resorts, and them saying all Deluxe will eventually have DVC,do you think maybe by "Aloha" they meant the Polynesian Resort?

I don't think that the OP literally meant they( DVC guides) said Aloha. :confused3 I think the OP used the word Aloha to mean Hawaii. I could be wrong. Bottom line... if it is Hawaii I'm adding on in a BIG way. DVC are you listening????????

My wife and I went to Hawaii for our honeymoon. We have been dying to go back ever since. Our 20th anniv. is just a few years a way. Maybe this is our chance.

I would love a Hawaii DVC, but not sure I'd buy there because I don't think I'd end up visiting too often (though I'd love to). The cost of airfare to Hawaii for a family of 5 can be steep. I could see going there (exchanging at the 7 mos window IF there's availability), maybe once every 5 years. Not sure we could afford the airfare more often than that. But it'll make a very nice internal exchange option in the DVC family----just feel it's going to be harder to get than BWV/BCV during F&W at the 7 mos window.

Hawaii would make good sense, especially since groups like Marriott are building their third resort there, and they STILL have huge amounts of members who can't get in there(including me). :sunny:

I think Hawaii would be extremely popular for the west coast people. It's shorter to fly from there and there are some pretty decent priced airfares for flying from the west coast to Hawaii.

Lilo and Stitch would make a good character breakfast option at a DVC Hawaii resort. I would love it. ;)

No, the CMs didn't say "aloha". What they actually did was motion a hula. And this was before they mentioned that all the deluxe hotels at WDW would have DVCs associated with them. In our conversation it became clear that they were NOT referring to the Polynesian Resort, especially since I asked which island it would be on (they didn't have an answer to that).

It definitely makes sense to me to promote DVC in California if the next resort announced is Hawaii.

Of course, all this is just from my conversations. It's not any type of official announcement.

I can't see our family using a Hawaii DVC at this time, but I certainly believe it would make the program more desireable and undoubtedly it would be profitable. If Disney Vacation Development makes money, they'll continue to build more resorts---which is good for all of us.

This is me exactly. Whilie it would be nice I don't think I would add on there for the fact that I know I wouldn't go every year, or every other year.

But if I did, it would be nice to go more often and would force me to. To bad airfare for 4 in a non really peak time would run us 681 per person. So once we saved up for airfare, we would literally have to do nothing but hang out on the beach.

The "huge amounts of members who can't get in there" are Marriott owners who own elsewhere, but want to trade into Hawaii.

Anybody with around $40 thousand or $50 thousand (plus over $1 thousand per year for maintenance fees) can buy a week at a Marriott timeshare resort in Hawaii. Then, those Marriott owners can "get in" every year. Marriott now has four Marriott Vacation Club resorts in Hawaii. (Resales are also available.)

For a timeshare resort to be successful, it needs to attract buyers, not just people who own elsewhere but want to trade in.

I don't doubt that many DVC members would like to stay in Hawaii. The question is how many would want to buy DVC points in Hawaii and pay annual dues that cover the high ongoing costs in Hawaii.

Disney Vacation Development would face a much higher development cost structure in Hawaii than at WDW. Prime resort sites are very expensive in Hawaii. (In comparison, Disney already owns thousands of prime, undeveloped acres at WDW.) Construction costs are also higher. And the DVC marketing folks will have a much more difficult time attracting customers; Disney won't have the marketing advantages that they have at WDW.

Still, if a reasonable percentage of the 90 thousand current DVC members can be convinced to buy in Hawaii, maybe Disney Vacation Development could be successful with a DVC resort in Hawaii.

So why couldn't it be a Hawaiian or Polynesian themed resort on property instead of another golf themed resort? Another off property resort kills all the associated spending from dining to merchandise to parks and resort hopping. I say it's on property.

Not much of one. Sept, Oct and early Dec are much lower than some of the rest.

But tourism has also recently returned to Hawaii, in particular the Japanese market after a long downturn. Combined with a decrease in hotel rooms (to condos and renovations) the Honolulu occupancy rate for 2005 was 97%.
