Here's something I've been wondering.

I know it's not unheard of to get a room upgrade (for example we were upgraded in AKL, and I know womeone who got an upgraded view in WL or upgraded to CL.)

Do DVC members ever get perks like this, for example upgraded view at BLT, or upgrade to CL at AKL?

I'm not buying into DVC for years, if we ever do, but I was just curious....

unfortunately not - once you buy into DVC the days of upgrades are gone forever!!:lmao: Something I have only learned from the DIS, AFTER I bought into DVC!!

As Amy said no free upgrades UNLESS there is something wrong (maintence issues that can't be fixed for example) in your room and the only room they have to offer you if better than what you book

Wow, that's pretty unusual for disney, huh?

You'd think especially as you've invested money if you owned at BLT for example and booked a lake view and there were MK views free that they'd bump you.

I certainly wouldn't expect it on borrowed points, but that's a shame the owners don't have a little glimmer of hope sometimes. Sure would be nice to book a studio and then turn up and get a 1 bed, and surely it wouldn't set DVC back much $$.

I think any rooms they don't have booked through DVC they release out into the public. I noticed when the 2010 dates come out there was no availablity to pay cash for a DVC room but now the 11 month windows have passed they have started releasing rooms to the public to fill them up.

I think it may be because if all the DVC rooms aren't taken then they have some sort of arrangement where the 'leftovers' (or part of them) become available for cash bookings. So they cease being DVC rooms. - but I might be wrong.

More cynical people say it is because they already have our money so Disney don't need to 'buy' our loyalty with free upgrades.

oops - sorry Gemma I didn't see your reply when I first started to type my reply - many moons ago!!

But to be honest I don't really know the reason!!:goodvibes

They certainly sell DVC rooms to standard paying customers as many of us are staying at SSR or OKW this summer. Also maybe members not getting free uogrades might get a bit fed up if there were frequent free upgardes for others goven that some of the points difference can be large :confused3

DVC members don't get upgraded, a bit of a sore point on here because of people getting upgraded from value resorts to 1 beds at SSR at OKW etc.

My guide told me Disney own there own points which they use for people paying cash.

No upgrades? Not strictly true.

We had a 2 bedroom at the Boardwalk Villas booked on one trip and were upgraded to a Grand Villa!
Admittedly we were only booked for one night, this may have been the reason for the upgrade.

Kev I think you are an exception, once they realised it was THE Kev Stringer they upgraded you because (tick only one answer)

a) they appreciate the power and influence you hold in the UK

b) didn't want you interacting with other guests like last time, gave a big villa so you it took you so long to get around it you spent less time outside

or
c) it was a loyalty reward for your bar bills

perhaps we should have a poll :confused3

lol Rob

I'm inclined to go with 'c', but it could just as easily be 'b'.
