DVC Room Sanitation Question

OMG, you people! :rotfl2: First of all, ALL dishes are washed in the dishwasher, of course, in your villa, and the coffee pot goes in there, too, ALL of it, I've seen the maids do it. Then they spray everything in the kitchen, and wipe them down--they work in two person crews. The bedspreads and blankets go too, but I can't say where they take them, or what they do when they get there. New bedspreads, though, are taken out of plastic bags.

Actually, I am more concerned about little kids having been in my room--they have WAY more "bodily secretions" than any adult, and no control over them. That's why you have to get out of the pool...major Yuck! :earseek: My last hotel room had evidence that a rugrat had "secreted" all over the floor, and the shampoo job didn't get all the smell out :earseek:

I agree -- a lot of this is much ado about nothing. The only thing I am conscious of is the fact that the bedspreads aren't cleaned between guests -- it's best to gingerly take them off the beds when we arrive and store them in the closets.

Agree about the villas, but hotels are my life! I'm talking about some hotels and motels.

I agree that it's much ado about nothing - I've never been sick and stay in hotels 15-25 days/month. BUT I will still wash my coffeepot and mugs if there is no dishwasher in my suite. Don't ask - I have my very valid reasons and don't want to gross anyone out! :earseek:

Thank you all. Now I can finally imagine what it would be like going to Disney World with Melvin Udall.

Think about this: No one has ever gotten sick from a motel room, but LOTS of people get sick after visiting hospitals, usually nasty germs, too! I'll bet no one here ever cleaned their hospital room when they used it, though. :confused3 On the other hand, maybe we shouldn't think too hard on that one... :guilty:

Ignorance is bliss.

My thoughts exactly. I did read the thread on the bedspreads. Too much information!! :earseek: I have never worried about germs at DW. There are germs everywhere.

To clean the jacuzzi tub, fill it with warm water and white vinegar (1 cup) and a little bleach (1/2 a cup). Run the jets for about 5 minutes . Then you can drain, it and fill it again and run the jets with the clean water for a few minutes. These are "roughly" the instructions that came with our jacuzzi tub in our house. I can't imagine housekeeping does this each time. It grosses me out to think what could come flying out of those jets when you turn them on. :earboy2:

As for the bedspreads, we always take them off in any hotel and put them in the closet. :)

I remove the bedspreads, wear either sandals or socks on the floors and bring lysol wipes to clean toilet seat, doorknobs, handles, table and remote. Just makes me feel better. Some ppl think I'm a neat freak but I dont think so. LOL. Haven't stayed in a DVC resort yet though. Guess I'll need to pack something to clean the jacuzzi when I stay DVC. I usually just take a face cloth and dish soap or shampoo and clean out the tub before the kids take a bath in a hotel. O.K. Guess I am a neat freak or have a germ phobia. :rotfl:

I travel every week and I find this HORROR over the bed spreads just funny. I have yet to catch a dread disease from a hotel room....

Personally I bet you are exposed to a lot more germs at Disney just walking around then you will be in your room. Think of all those kids, including yours, touching everything they see!

Just touch a bathroom door handle in any public restroom. You don't want to know!!!!!!

It is standard practice in the hotel industry that only the sheets are changed.

Now if you don't want to catch anything......don't go into a hospital.

Just remember to keep washing your hands at the appropriate times and carry a small bottle of purell (2 oz) for when you have to touch those bathroom door handles.

And watch out for that loose nut behind the steering wheel.

Carol,

Very well said! I also travel weekly. Never had a hotel room make me ill.

if you're going to go crazy over hotel room sanitation, why stop there?
everything you touch, sit on, lean against is germ-infested (how do you think you get all those colds?)....
do you wear gloves when you're walking around outside?....do you not touch anything?....do you put your hands on the handrails? do you hold on to something when you're on rides?....do you think they sanitize the ride in between riders?....
if you have toddlers, do they tend to roll around on the ground every now and then?

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I am very much a home body (comfortable with our own private 'family germs'). Out in public there are a few things that I am cautious about (public toilets and bathroom doors...never touch those! yuck!).

The only thing that really grosses me out in motels/resorts are the bedspreads and the pillows. No laying on bedspreads with bare skin, and always travel with my own pillow (I'll use the resort pillows underneath mine...just don't want face contact).

I think I remember seeing a feature story on the 'Today Show' that the germiest thing in a motel room is the remote! Coming in second was the phone (and before you say you don't use it, think of Mickey's wake up call and people's half asleep slobbery 'morning face'). Double yuck!!!

:rotfl2:

As my dad use to say, "you ain't going to get out of this world alive, something is going to get you. So why worry about it. relaxe and enjoy life".

Best advise I ever got.

The world we live in is full of germs - my doctor says it is not good to try to sanitize it - makes for weak immune systems.

Best wishes -

Exactly, we took my parents (drove from MPLS) 2 years ago. My Mom (Dad must abide) is a clean freak-used her own pillow, sheets and cleaned the bathroom of the hotels on the way down. Her house is spotless always, we even had to use the bottle of liquid germ killer on our hands before we ate at each stop on the way.

THEY BOTH GOT SICK  and we (5 of us) did not at all (we are far away from clean freaks). Anyway-on Day 1 they both got flu like syptoms all the way to check out on Day 6. Day 3 we got ZPACS which may have helped but too late. Then they were OK for the car ride back to MPLS-what a rip off.

Immune maybe?

OK...I can make you all sick!!! :teeth:

I had a small scratch next to my ear...it was fine, on the mend. THEN I rode on RNRC. My head was banging on the restraint during the whole ride, right in the same area of my cut. Within a day it started itching and swelling...it was so gross. It ended up looking like a HOT DOG was inserted under my skin. It took major antibiotics to get rid of it! :crazy2:

Will that stop me from riding RNRC??? NEVER!!!!!! :sunny:

fun2bmomof3, we have 4 kids and own other T/Ss so we travel a lot. I always feel that the sheets and towels are fine. We walk around bare foot and I do use the broom and vacuum (occasionally the mop) to keep the crumbs under control. I doubt that you could fit the bedspreads into the washer/ dryer even if you did want to wash them. OKW has full sized units, but the others have the small stackable kinds. Even at OKW they are not huge, plus do you really want to spend the first 2 days of your vacation doing laundry? Relax and have fun!
