Hi, I understand the new 7 day rule and I think on a whole it will work great. However what about the hard to get dates. For instance if I wanted to book 2 nights over New year, I would have to wait until the 30th to book the two nights. What is to stop some on phoning on the 24th for 7 nights and then after the 31st cancelling the first 5 nights? That way they gain an advantage. Of course you would have to have the points to do this, but I can see some people doing it. The 7 month window will be difficult as the MS's said that the same 7 day rule applies. So you could start 7 days prior to first date and keep moving the reservation by cancelling the first day and adding one? :confused3

So sorry to babble on, but this means those with loads of points will gain and those with just enough will not. I did think of writting to DVC, as I thought the old way was fairer.

There is a very very long thread on this topic on the dvc miscellaneous board.

Also a thread about success with the new reservation system. Check it out.

They do it now, it's called "walking".

According to MS, that's the only way guarantee that you will get a reservation for the most popular locations at the most popular times.

Sorry tried to search, but the search wouldn't work. If someone has the link to the thread I would be grateful. This is my first reservation with the new system and if MS are aware of this "walking" then how does that help anyone. I think it would have been fairer to not allow this on peak travel dates, like new year etc.

Don't want to rehash stuff as you all seem to have talked about it before. Just very dissappointed in the new system.

I called for two popular times and had no problems. Maybe it's because we arrive on odd days and stay over weekends but I got a 2BR standard view at BWV beginning 10/23 for 5 nights plus I just got a 2BR Boardwalk view for 12/10 thru the 15th.

No walking involved.

Get in contact with the DVC satisfaction team and give your concerns to them. I have and was told to call them back if I had trouble getting something like NYE where I had been able to get it this past year. I'm not going for it again for '09, but will for '10. I have Joy's phone number in case things don't work out.

I just booked a one bedroom Boardwalk view for 10/12-10/16... no problem. I had wanted a studio and none were available, MS said, " she had just checked BCV's for the same dates...pleanty of studios." This is Columbus Day holiday.

The problem is going to be Christmas/NYs. Some people arrive before the holidays, some during the holidays, some towards the end. So if Family A arrives on Dec 19, stays for 7 nights, they would leave on Dec 26. Family B arrives on Dec 24 and stays 7 nights, they would leave on NYE. Family C arrives on Dec 26, stays 7 nights and leaves on Jan 2. With the overlapping dates, someone is going to lose out.
