So I was going to buy direct and then decided on resale. My Disney rep called and made me very nervous.

He is telling me I don't have RCI use through resale. I know this is not the best way to travel but I still want the option. Can anyone tell me with complete certainty that I still get RCI use?

He also said I would not get the benefits and discounts that direct buyers get. So I would not get discounts on dining plans or annual passes or any of those extra benefits associated with being a direct buyer. Can anyone tell me about this?

Is anyone here a resale buyer since Disney changed their rules last March? If you are can you tell me as someone who would own exactly what I own what benefits we lose out on?

Thank you

Disney can and will change the rules and benefits to make more money. You will read here over and over that using the DVC for anything other that staying at a DVC resort isn't the best use of points. Do some people use them for DCL or other stays, sure they do and some people buy the DDP and go home with dining credits still in their account, that's their choice.

It's pretty simple, Disney's business is to make money, your goal is to keep your money while still having a nice vacation at Disney.

I do not recall any announcement that resale buyers wouldn't get discounts on AP or Dining plan. :confused3

Back last March when they changed the rules about resale buyers, Disney said anyone who purchased before March 2o, 2011 had the same rights and privileges of a direct buyer and anyone that purchased resale AFTER that date would be limited to their membership for DVC stays.

I think the only things restricted were using points for cruises, or Adventures by Disney.

I' d say your guide was trying to scare you into buying direct.

Good luck. popcorn::

you can trade in your resale DVC pts for RCI properties (also some intrawest properties), subject to availability. it's generally a bad idea, though.

you don't get trades for cruises, adv by disney and disney hotels when you buy resale - they tend to cost a lot of pts anyway, though.

there's a saying about how to tell if timeshare salespeople are lying.

"their lips are moving."

some people will panic and buy direct...mission accomplished. you could call their manager and complain but i really doubt that DVC management cares any more.

they have product to move. whatever it takes...

welcome to the world of timeshares.

Yes, lying. (That is a shame, my guide was so honest.)

1st, there are no discounts on the dining plan for DVC members.
2nd, you still get AP discounts and any other discounts unless they change something in the future.

And you would lose the ability to book cruises, or the Disney Collection hotels as stated above. Not for trading out through RCI.

Of course he did...that's his job. If you buy direct, he gets a fat paycheck. If you buy resale, he gets nothing. Think about that when you decide what is motivating your salesperson. And that's what he is...he's not a "rep".

Either you misunderstood or he lied to you. But RCI trades is currently one of the benefits that has not been taken away from resale owners. That could change in the future though, you never know.

He also said I would not get the benefits and discounts that direct buyers get. So I would not get discounts on dining plans or annual passes or any of those extra benefits associated with being a direct buyer. Can anyone tell me about this?

Again, either you misunderstood or he lied. But there's one discount that hasn't been mentioned. Tell him that you get a 50% off discount by buying resale...and ask him to match it.

Yes, and I couldn't be happier. You lose out on the "benefits" of using your points to book Adventures by Disney, Disney Concierge Collection and Disney Cruise Line...all of which are much more expensive using points than simply paying cash.

Thank you

You're welcome! :)

This is one of the most common questions we get at The Timeshare Store, Inc.® When buying resale you actually do have access to RCI and you receive the same discounts on any dining plan or annual pass as any other member. The only difference is you don't have access to the Disney Collection, Concierge Collection or the Adventurer Collection.

I hope that helps.

Jason

Will I receive the same treatment as DVC members who purchase direct through Disney?
The real estate interest (Membership) that you purchase through The Timeshare Store, Inc.® will not be eligible to use those Vacation Points to make reservations within the Concierge Collection, the Disney Collection or the Adventurer Collection. Those Vacation Points will instead be valid for reservations at Disney Vacation Club resorts, as well as for the RCI® exchanges, Club Cordial and Club Intrawest.

First - everyone has responded that the info the guide provided was incorrect and used to scare you.

Second - IF you do still consider buying direct (which with the price difference really doesn't make sense in the majority of cases) then DO call and ask for a different guide. This one is giving incorrect information and who knows what else they will do. :(

Actually there is a slight discount to DVC members with the Dining Plan as DVC members do not pay the higher "seasonal" price of the dining plan that is higher during seasons like Christmas and Spring Break. The DVC dining plan price is the same for the whole year.

Another factor that many prospective buyers don't figure out (and the DVC timeshare salesman certainly will NOT tell you) is that NONE of the discounts, benefits, etc, etc are guaranteed to ANY owner.

Direct purchasers can, and will, have perks and benefits withdrawn from time to time. And of course, benefits will also be added from time to time. Either one can be done at any time Disney decides to change something.

As noted, the only thing you don't get as a resale purchaser is access to three of the Collections. Otherwise, you will be treated and mistreated in the exact same way as those who buy from Disney and many feel the latter is more common
